[Singles Appreciation] Paparazzi

Doot

giphy.gif

"Paparazzi" is a song by American singer Lady Gaga from her debut studio album, The Fame (2008). It was released as the album's fifth and final single by Interscope Records. Gaga wrote and produced the song with Rob Fusari. The song portrays Gaga's struggles in her quest for fame, as well as balancing success and love. Musically, it is an uptempo techno-pop and dance-pop song whose lyrics describe a stalker following somebody to grab attention and fame.

The single was released on July 6, 2009, in the United Kingdom and four days later in Australia. "LoveGame" initially had been planned as the third single release in the UK, but when its lyrics and music video were deemed potentially controversial, it was decided that "Paparazzi" would be released instead. "Paparazzi" was critically acclaimed for its "fun-filled" and club-friendly nature. It was also commercially successful, reaching top-ten positions in the music charts of Australia, Canada, Ireland, the United Kingdom, and the United States and topping the charts in the Czech Republic, Germany and Scotland.

Lyrics:

Spoiler

We are the crowd
We're coming out
Got my flash on it's true
Need that picture of you
It's so magical
We'd be so fantastical

Leather and jeans
Garage glamorous
Not sure what it means
But this photo of us
It don't have a price
Ready for those flashing lights
'Cause you know that baby I

I'm your biggest fan
I'll follow you until you love me
Papa-Paparazzi
Baby, there's no other superstar
You know that I'll be your
Papa-paparazzi

Promise I'll be kind
But I won't stop until that boy is mine
Baby, you'll be famous
Chase you down until you love me
Papa-paparazzi

I'll be a girl backstage at your show
Velvet ropes and guitars
Yeah, 'cause you're my rock star in between the sets
Eyeliner and cigarettes

Shadow is burnt,
Yellow dance and we turn
My lashes are dry
Purple teardrops I cry
It don't have a price
Loving you is cherry pie

'Cause you know that, baby, I

I'm your biggest fan
I'll follow you until you love me
Papa-paparazzi
Baby, there's no other superstar
You know that I'll be your
Papa-paparazzi

Promise I'll be kind
But I won't stop until that boy is mine
Baby, you'll be famous
Chase you down until you love me
Papa-paparazzi

Real good, we're dancing in the studio
Snap, snap, to that **** on the radio
Don't stop for anyone
We're plastic but we still have fun

I'm your biggest fan
I'll follow you until you love me
Papa-paparazzi
Baby, there's no other superstar
You know that I'll be your
Papa-paparazzi

Promise I'll be kind
But I won't stop until that boy is mine
Baby, you'll be famous
Chase you down until you love me
Papa-paparazzi

Such an underrated bop and classic Gaga song. And it is funny how the music video kinda follows what would happen to Gaga’s career, people loved her, didn’t love her (during ARTPOP era) and then they love her again (during Joanne, ASIB, Chromatica etc)

Amazing video! I thought it was the coolest when I was younger. :enigma: And obviously the VMAs performance... I loved it and drew my first Lady Gaga fan art the next day in class.

I also love the acoustic versions especially how she does it for J&P!

The song itself i’m a little lukewarm on as I don’t like the super sweet high vocals and while certain lyrics are so iconic I don‘t really like the chorus. The production/instrumental is cool tho.
