I disagree. :enigma:

Chromatica is a safe version of ARTPOP not experimental.

Chromatica is The Fame and ARTPOP having a baby.

It got The Fame's eyes but ARTPOP's mental illness :enigma:

Billionaires are a cancer. Even the ones you like.

And while Chromatica does share the same concept as ARTPOP, its less confusing and the tracks were organically created during the recording process. Chromatica is full of tracks that are "risky". There isn't one track on there thats safe.

Fun Tonight :enigma:

Plastic Doll :enigma:

I wouldn’t say experimental but Born This Way. It is such a great pop album from start to finish with a lot of different genres that makes it such an experience. 80’s sound, heavy metal, mariachi, the writing, the hooks, etc.

I guess ARTPOP is supposed to be her “experimental” album with songs like Aura, Sex Dreams, Jewels N Drugs, Swine and it is also a weird but very Gaga body of work but I think Born This Way took way more risks. ARTPOP would’ve been more experimental if she kept the original ideas she had (Ratchet, Red Flame, Partynauseous, maybe even Tea) but they probably decided to include songs like Applause, Dope, Gypsy, Fashion! and Do What U Want to maintain the commercial side of it. It was also released during the very last wave of EDM moving to trap/hip hop.

Both are great on their own by the way, just that Born This Way with the visuals wins over ARTPOP for me.

Apparently unpopular opinion, but I don't think ARTPOP was experimental... it was EDM like 2.5 years after the genre had blown up already

Born this way >>> notice it's unique sound, no other albums out there can be compared to it

Exactly.

A lot of people in this thread think maximization as experimental. ARTPOP is in maximization spectrum with barely any experimental influences. Everything in ARTPOP follows an usual formulation for a pop song while maximizing the edm sounds.
As for BTW, it is not 100% new however it plays with modernist and throwback sound while mixing multiple genres, which gives it a experimental elements.

Please ignore the spelling in username. I am a Beyonce stan afterall.

all safe tracks

More like all of them except maybe 911, Replay, and Sine From Above, maybe also Babylon.

Not that it’s not good, it’s an amazing album and it doesn’t have to be experimental to be good, but it IS a commercial album. Whoever voted for it has 0 idea what experimental means :laughga:
