Taylor writes like a white girl who did well in English class and went to school with a journal.

Lana has some more refinement but oftentimes gets repetitive.

Lorde eats both of them up for breakfast.

Florence drags them through the mud.

They’re both similar in their subject matter (relationships, relationships and relationships) but I find myself more drawn to Taylor’s style of songwriter. It feels more honest, raw, uncertain, tender and uncomfortable at times. Lana is style over substance.

Gaga is a much more interesting lyricist than both with much more personality :awkney: She has some misfires as do most lyricists, but her lyrics in BTW at large are more evocative than anything Lana or Taylor have ever written imo.

Again I’m basing this off of solo written tracks (Gaga has 3 released). It’s kinda hard to judge songs that are co-written because you never know who did what. When the ARTPOP legal documents leaked most songs were 50% or under for Gaga.

Here you go luv.

“ If you’re happier these days, what do you think when you hear an old lyric from an old record, like, “He hit me and it felt like a kiss,” from “Ultraviolence”?

I don’t like it. I don’t. I don’t sing it. I sing “Ultraviolence” but I don’t sing that line anymore. Having someone be aggressive in a relationship was the only relationship I knew. I’m not going to say that that [lyric] was 100 percent true, but I do feel comfortable saying what I was used to was a difficult, tumultuous relationship, and it wasn’t because of me. It didn’t come from my end.

personally i think Taylor is too mainstream and the GP can relate to it without having some type of background. as when it comes to Lana, i think her lyric have a bit more conceptual depthness to it, way more cinematic and sets the whole picture without being so straightforward. but that's just my opinion

What about her? :oprah: She’s not been called the voice of her generation for nothing sis...

They’re different. If you’re talking commercially more successful, Taylor. But that’s because she caters to pop. Lana is in a different lane. They’re not the same. Good in different ways.

From what she’s explained of her process, she’ll have most of the actual lyrics written and credit anyone who chips in or suggests a different melody/harmony.

I love Lana, don't worry, but this lyric "hit" me hard! I've seen her live once-she was amazing- and also I've been asked to write a review for a local paper and I glorified her!

You took my sadness out of context
At the Mariners Apartment Complex
I ain't no candle in the wind
I'm the board, the lightning, the thunder
Kind of girl who's gonna make you wonder
Who you are and who you've been

And who I've been is with you on these beaches
Your Venice bitch, your die-hard, your weakness
Maybe I could save you from your sins
So kiss the sky and whisper to Jesus
My, my, my, you found this, you need this
Take a deep breath, baby, let me in
