Her music entirely reflects that in lyricism and sound, I think she even poked fun at herself (without the fun) on Brooklyn Baby, acknowledging said pretension. Personally, I find it kind of cringe/annoying at times, shes made some music i've liked. Whereas, I really don't care for Taylor Swift at all. But if we're talking lyrics, I just think shes a lot more straightforward and honest with her approach and a little less stuffy. I mean Lanas audio album for her poetry book seriously just makes me roll my eyes. Other people find that endearing about her, I don't. But thats just me. Thanks for explaining further, really. I am a fan and do find certain songs cringey sometimes, honestly. Lana’s lyrics are better appreciated in their delivery and when put to music. I guess Taylor’s lyrics stand on their own more. I hear what you’re saying. I do think Lana has some truly brilliant lyrics and songs, though, and will continue to get better/more mature. I don’t think calling it all b/s is entirely accurate. She’s less straightforward, but I see it as layered, not always pretentious. i don't remember ARTPOP

Well...I dont care for either of them really but lyrically yeah...already expressed that haha Calling it all b/s is an admitted exaggeration. Just my way of saying I think she can be a little bloated and self important with her approach. As Gaga fans I think we've heard that a lot about our own over the years, so when people praise Lana for being even more pretentious sometimes i cant help but side eye tbh. I also find her to be one note, shes made album after album of a different shade of gray. I get that it sets in place a sound and a brand, some people appreciate that and prefer it to the ever shifting styles of other artists. I get that. But its another example that just makes me meh when it comes to Lana. I think a lot of people find her so much more profound than she actually is. So by comparison I do just appreciate Taylors more organic approach to lyricism than Lanas try hardness. But people gon like what they like
Sister 9,907
People always put down the utter pretentious, but I admire and adore it. Most people I am a fan of are very pretentious and of extreme or excessive character. I can see that view coming up with Lana Del Rey of course, so that is a fair call out. But if she only did her art half-heartedly, she would not be effective and she would just look like a poseur of what genre she is trying to project. She actually has dropped a lot of her "act" and is being more straight forward. The future's uncertain and the end is always near.
