Drag Race should be in every country, it's not like the US is the only place to hold such event. :vegas:

And it's not like it's a rip-off show.

You mean to say queens of other countries don’t deserve to be showcased? Don’t watch it if you don’t want to.

I‘m so bitter what we got in Germany because they didn‘t want to buy rights to the Original Format...

I strongly disagree. Drag Race is a show made by Ru, an American drag queen, coming from American drag culture. The whole Drag Race aesthetic and concept is inspired by the American ball scene. If you are genuinely interested in amplifying drag and are really daring to put a national label on it and this way introducing it to the masses then take a look at the local drag scene and try to understand where this drag is coming from.

By franchising Drag Race as a concept and marketing it to other countries as the "introduction to drag" to the masses it completely distorts national drag identity and erases the idea of drag being a certain form of empowerment of yourself and this also means that it heavily includes where you are coming from. What your drag has to do with your country.

Only because RuPaul's Drag Race was so connected to the American roots it made people connect with the contestants and listen to their stories even when they have never seen anything like drag before. People started to understand what drag is about because of the authenticity of the show. If you really want to showcase queens from other countries and make people listen to them and respect them as artists and make them realize how much power and potential drag has then you HAVE to adapt it to the roots of their country. And this means more than just adapting the content and themes of challenges of a reality tv show to the national holiday, a specific humour and / or having queens from different regions. Drag is a universal art form that has existed for hundreds of years and Drag Race Queens are a small percentage of what drag can look like but Drag Race in its concept is not representing enough to be universal.

Bringing drag queens to more and more TV screens around the world, literally what's wrong with that? It's amazing news and I hope more will follow.

I mean, Americanization of worldwide entertainment is nothing new. But Ru opened the door and created a formula that found resonance not only in the US, but around the world. On a marketing standpoint, this winning formula is what is getting worldwide broadcasters interested - is it a bad thing? I mean, it's either this, or no drag queens on international screens for God knows how many more years. We gotta start somewhere. Also, I think the UK and Canadian versions did a good job adapting to their own cultures, tho there was nothing revolutionary. Now I'd be curious to see how they handle a version of the show in a non Anglo-Saxon country - I admit I didn't get the chance to watch Drag Race Thailand and don't know how they handled it, or if it was even official.

Drag race has literally lost all its charm at this point

There are like 5 seasons a year now. Can't wait for people to stop caring and for the views to plunge:teehee:

Why would you want people to stop caring about a show that’s literally put queer culture on the forefront? I don’t understand what’s so wrong with giving a platform to drag queens not only from the US but other parts of the world. It’s like Got Talent, Idol, The Voice, Top Model, reality competition shows always  have international spin-offs.

I wasn't expressing a wish for that to actually happen. I was trying to say that I'm expecting it to happen soon, regradless of what I want. That's why I used that emoji
