Gaga’s not a lyrical artist. She never has been. That not a bad thing at all, she just shines as a songwriter/musician in different ways.
Folklore is an album made to be written by Taylor. Lyrics have been the essence of her music since the beginning g.

This doesn’t really prove the point I think you’re trying to prove :laughga:

artists excel at different things. i think Taylor writes objectively better lyrics than Gaga does. but that's always been Taylor's biggest strength. I think Gaga is REALLY good with catchy melodies.

i really can't imagine Gaga ever doing something like folklore. the "story" of a song has never been what her music's about. it's almost always the feeling a song conveys rather than what the lyrics are explicitly saying. and that makes sense – Taylor comes from country which is fundamentally a lyric-driven genre, whereas pop music is fundamentally about capturing a feeling.

conversely, i can't imagine Taylor ever releasing something like Government Hooker, Bloody Mary, Judas, Do What U Want, Sexxx Dreams, Alice, 911 etc. they're good at different things. in the same way that Joanne is not nearly as good as Taylor's version of the same thing, 1989 is not nearly as good as Gaga's version of the same thing.

taylor's like red wine and gaga's whiskey. they do different things in different settings.

Exactly this. I’m kind of shocked people disagree with these points, I feel like these are just objective facts :laughga:

another note, I’m very surprised at how many people are suddenly calling Taylor a lyric genius. Isn’t this the same fan club that keeps on calling Taylor’s single generic and saying “Taylor’s lyrics are so elementary”? What’s with the sudden change of heart with lots of you in here? Again, no hate towards Taylor. I’m just asking out of curiosity..

They said this about Me! And YNTCD and people were 1000% right.
Taylor can have awful lyrics, but every album has several songs that only work because she’s always been a great songwriter.

G*ga doesn't have the lyrical range. No matter how many times she sings Bad Romance on the piano she will never have that storytelling ability. It's fine, it's just different, that's why no one wants Gaga to go stripped back, as opposed to Taylor fans, because they know that's where Taylor shines

Did you forget that gaga started out as a songwriter

And Taylor can never sing as well as Gaga does that's a fact to anyone who can judge vocalists objectively.

P/S: You're also praising Taylor's storytelling skills, which she definitely warrants. Taylor can write amazing lyrics, but Gaga can write better melodies.

I have nothing against Taylor but people acting like Folklore is better than Gaga's albums in all departments when the only department it is better at is lyrics.

The fact is that she's capable of making an album like that, but taylor never be able to making an album like ARTPOP or btw. There's still lots of possibility on GaGa.I hope is just not that time yet.

Joanne

True. Taylor did what Gaga tried to do with Joanne.

I would not be pleased tbh. It’d be like another Joanne, or ASIB. If Gaga wasn’t in ASIB, I wouldn’t have even bothered to see the movie tbh, never mind listen to the soundtrack. I love Gaga, but being a fan doesn’t mean you have to absolutely adore everything the artist does. I’d still stick to TF, TFM, BTW, ARTPOP, and Chromatica thanks :huntyga:

tbh the real question is, would Gaga get the same praise as Taylor?

The answer: probably no.

Foklore by Gaga would get less than 80 metacritic score.

So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy

Maybe my mind is too simple for that, but neither can I compare Taylor to Gaga nor imagine Gaga realesing folklore. They are both amazing artists, but for me there is literally nothing comparable about the two of them:

Gaga is amazing catch phrases and putting vowels and words into new and unexpected combination. Taylor is seemlesly flowing words into one body of text embedded in sound.

Gaga is chasing the sounds, the melodies and winning them over to make them hers and turning them into something real, new and powerful. Taylor is telling stories and showing emotions which the melody supports and follows along, creating atmospheres to recreate the feelings in an aesthetic, safe settings of music.

Gaga is searching the sound as she goes, Taylor is deciding on one and trying to find and keep it.

I feel like they are not even approach writing from the same point: Gaga comes from emotions, from the music itself, from direct thoughts and experiences to express, Taylor from observations, realisations, rationalising feelings and creating something deliberately to convey these. Gaga music is open to imagination and Taylor's creates specific images.

For Gaga life is imitating art or art itself, for Taylor art is portraying life.

It is like Gaga is Rilke and Taylor Jane Austen, but both living at the same time.

If Gaga released an album which was her performing the songs on Folklore, then for me I think it would be better than Folklore because I prefer Gaga's singing to Taylor's.

If she released an albun which contained songs in a similar style to Folklore, I would firstly be surprised and disappointed that she had done that, but I would probably still prefer it to Folklore because it would be Gaga singing rather than Taylor.
