President Biden 5,898
so let us discussion I hate to mention it because I adore Folklore and NFR, alongside To Pimp a Butterfly and Twisted Fantasy. So i have no problem with their high reviews. But Metacritic critics has a huge slant towards either Rap/R&B albums or Alt/Folksy Rock albums. They eat them up and will immediately call them “authentic” “genuine” “personal”. On the contrary, I’ve found them to have a huge bias against any electronic music. Some of the highest rated electronic releases (fka twigs, Chromatica & Future Nostalgia) are stuck in the 70s-80s range. And then some clearly talented work, like LSD’s album or Avicii, get horrible scores. So let us rave. Metacritic hates electro. Too bad for them, this is the dancefloor we fought for! Jose P 23,341
Metacritic has nothing to do with it, they only compile the reviews.
FfFfFfFF 55,703
Completely right. The most important things for critical succes are the hype surrounding the release & artist, how the album has been presented, album's place within artist's discography etc etc. Not the quality itself. To a high extend it's arbitrary and hype-driven.

Yep, it is critics in general who favor more 'folky' sounds, etc. And I give rap/r & b/hip hop a pass, since critics were so biased (often racist) against the genres up until 10 years ago and still are in some ways. I did like The Guardian's review of Folkore, which pointed out just because the album is stripped back doesn't mean the album is more "authentic" than Taylor's other albums. Oyster 2,458
It’s because critics want to be “artsy” and “sophisticated” and for some reason electronic music is not considered sophisticated which I personally disagree with a lot. It’s kind of a snooty, “i know real music” kind of thing. same thing with art critics. serious songs and art are judged better than more fun stuff that wants to let loose. but it’s important to remember everyone has different tastes and these reviews mean nothing
