socotra 3,310
i like the first half of the album a lot. second half drops off a bit for me, but i recognize this isn't an album you're gonna be putting on every day. it's clear that wasn't the point here, you for sure have to be in a specific mood and place to listen to this. i'm super impressed with the writing and sonic cohesion of this record though. that being said, i did expect it to be a bit more "indie" – the album stays at around the same intensity level all the way through. I definitely thought at least a couple of the songs would swell to the highs of Lost in the World or Bon Iver's 33 God and 8 (circle) a bit more. It's certainly far more acoustic than i was expecting (which isn't a bad thing, it's actually kinda nice, but the "indie" label throws me off – it sounds far more like a collection of ballads to me). this is beautiful music to listen to under the stars at 3 AM, or driving through the fog early in the morning. Definitely a type of sound I would like to hear from Gaga some day I really don’t think the sound of this album would play to Gaga’s strengths as a vocalist at all, but wouldn’t be mad if she tried

dynamite 59,307
Ok I like this album It's nothing groundbreaking, but every song is sweet and easy to listen to. I don't care for any of her other music. Like a poem said by a neydy in red
holy scheisse 22,272
Does anybody wonder if Betty is a song about a same sex teenage love interest? There have long been rumors that tay is either bisexual, or closeted lesbian. Idk im getting lesbian vibes. @Ryusei I think it was you who looong ago I remember discussing this rumor in some thread and you don't necessarily buy into it, but what are your thoughts on Miss Betty Boop? It's a song about a Teenage love triangle, it is a "trilogy" of some sort with the songs august and cardigan and explores this relationship of those 3 people through 3 different perspectives. Betty is about James' perspective August is about the perspective of the girl James cheated on Betty with and Cardigan is about Betty's perspective Taylor calls it the Teenage Love Triangle. So yeah without this context it is easily thinkable that this would be about some same-sex interest of Taylor's but it's not. Hope this helped Musery

I liked The Archer, Miss Americana, Cornelia Street, False God and Afterglow, but the rest of the album was not really my taste (like I literally don't understand the hype Cruel Summer has and why people are disappointed it didn't get single treatment) and took a long time for me to listen through the album and not be disappointed, after reputation. Like literally a couple weeks ago I thought "well this album is growing on me." Same! I have a few favorites (False God, Cruel Summer, Miss Americana) but other than that everything fell flat for me. I feel like I would have loved YNTCD and Me! more if they weren't supposed to be huge radio singles, I think they would have been perfect album fillers. The rest of the songs are just a little too....easy for me I guess? Like Taylor can create the majority of Lover without even trying, so I guess that's why I didn't really like it. I know she has so much more to give and new roads to discover, and now she has with folklore!
