Canada To Protect USA Refuges From Imprisonment (STCA 3rd Party Agreement)

The Federal Court has ruled that the Safe Third Country Agreement (STCA), which allows Canada to send certain refugee claimants back to the United States, is unconstitutional.

 

Released Wednesday, the decision from Justice Ann McDonald explicitly states that the U.S. is no longer a safe country for refugees sent back from Canada due to the risk of imprisonment.

 

“For the reasons outlined below, I have concluded that the actions of Canadian authorities in enforcing the STCA result in ineligible (refugee) claimants being imprisoned by US authorities,” McDonald wrote.

 

“I have concluded that imprisonment and the attendant consequences are inconsistent with the spirit and objective of the STCA and are a violation of the rights guaranteed by section 7 of the (Charter of Rights and Freedoms).”

 

The court challenge to the STCA was launched by several refugee advocacy groups, including the Canadian Council for Refugees, Amnesty International and the Canadian Council of Churches, as well as several would-be refugees who were deemed ineligible to make asylum claims in Canada due to provisions contained in the STCA.

To be fair I think immigrants are almost always disappointed because they imagine life being even better than it actually is where they move to then realize their new land also has lots of flaws and hardships

 

I can't tell you how many immigrants to Canada thought it was gonna be easy money and living and then they realize that our higher wages also come with much higher cost of living than in their country which offsets at least some of the economic benefit

 

Tho in many ways their standard of living still rises they still have to work all week to pay their bills. The average joe can't seem to escape a life of slavery for work no matter where they move to

In my opinion it's simple

 

The US still has a very high standard of living overall by world standards. Let's not forget that Billions of people in the world barely have enough to eat. There's a massive number of people still living on $1 a day

 

If you look only at the Wealthy and  Developed world specifically: Canada, US, most of Europe, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and a few others...

 

Then the US is kinda middle of the pack at best by 1st world standards

 

But I'd still rather live in the US than in 80% of Countries tbh

I don't get the point. Why are we supposed to send refugees back to a Country that didn't want them in the first place? What the hell is the point of that?
