people are REALLY relying on that $600 a month. I know people who are paying off their student loans with it. its great that congress did it. they should extend it.

This... the state UI is also a huge factor... yay Georgia for not honoring back pay so come 8/1.... all UI is over for the state. There are no talks of the state extending and the maximum I think was a little over $300 for most service industry jobs?

so a lot of people are going to be looking for these jobs that are temp... and be making bare minimum to survive.... hazard pay needs to be a thing for the essential workers absolutely. It’s ridiculous they have been ignored.

but also, like someone else said... finding another job is not ideal for most people either for multiple reasons. They want to stimulate and reopen the economy a shutdown needs to happen for real, with stimulated pay or frozen payments on everything.... or give people the money they need to actually survive.

Trump really bungled the **** out of this. Had the country simply FULLY shut down for six weeks, and the CARES act been put into place as it was implemented, we’d be in such a different place. But the middling, pass-the-blame to the states decisions that have been made have made a bad problem far, far worse.

I make $840 a week ($1680 bi-weekly) which with the tragic Canadian dollar ever since the Oil Crash that's only $613 USD a week

 

But I consider that a decent income maybe it's cuz I'm still used to the sh*tty wage of my last job I had for 8 years

I would assume your cost of living threshold is at least somewhat lower than ours though? We're in Chicago - median home value here $229k USD...and that's just housing....

Honney don't even start with Real Estate. I guess u haven't followed the housing boom in Canada that started in 2001 and still hasn't gone bust.

 

Homes in Toronto for example are going for $1.5M which in USD is just below $1.2M

 

Canada is considered to have one of the most unaffordable and overvalued real estate in the world. Far worse than the US by most measures in part cuz our housing boom never ended

 

In terms of everyday items tho the currency conversion can be misleading tho. The Canadian Dollar has fallen a fair bit in the last few years because of Oil and other Resources struggling which affect our currency a lot since we export a lot of it

 

But the cost of things hasnt changed a tone since the currency dropped surprisingly

Yes but states dont have the same weekly benefit amounts & states like Florida where the weekly benefit is $275 and have some of the highest monthly rents in the country, its more than drastic. Its begging to have thousands upon thousands homeless in central Florida since our economy is entirely based on the tourism thats not taking place. A one bedroom apartment in a reasonable place in Orlando costs 1000 per month. Anything beyond that and youre looking at 1200+.  Its a death sentence what they are doing.

True. Kentucky’s weekly benefit is $502, Kansas is $474, Arkansas is $451. 

Florida, Tennessee and Mississippi have some of the lowest benefits. 

Of course, it all depends on what area you live in. If you live in parts of Tennessee, 1,500 a month with other assistance could be workable for a while. If you live in Nashville, you are in trouble. I imagine the same is true in most southern states.
