$400 is better than nothing. I know a few people who lost really good jobs that are relying on the CARES act to help hold them up. They’re self employed so their benefits are only $104 a week and with the state shut down again it doesn’t look like they can even go back to work.

it’s actually every 2 weeks, rn it’s perfect my regular benefits are 160 and the extra 600 means I get about 1,500 a week, for some that’s none but I live at home with no bills so I’m enjoying saving

NeverMind I read the article wrong yeah this would be tragic, on an extra 100 a week compared to 600 yikes

I thought it was every week? Regardless this decrease is gonna make it a lot harder for people to get by now. Despicable.

$400 A MONTH. $100 A WEEK?! WHO IS SUPPOSED TO LIVE ON THAT?!?

Perhaps I misread but I thought it said from $2400 a month to $400 a month.

my housemate is on unemployment and the $2400 a month figure comes from the extra $600/week under the care act. So for the past few months people are receiving their normal unemployment benefit (based on how much their previous job paid) and then an additional $600 on top of that. So my housemate is making $1000 a week when she used to make ~$400 a week when she was working. A lot of young people are actually making a lot more than when they were working. So it looks like they might reduce that extra $600/week to $100/week.

This also made me realize how underpaid I am since my sisters and friends aren't working and they are making more money than me now at my full time job :bear:

Thank you for clarifying this for everyone. Y’all it’ll be $100 a week in addition to the benefits someone would’ve received before corona. So people will still be getting $400 more a month than they would’ve pre-corona.

I know this might sound shitty, but I’m a nurse, I work 12 hours shifts wearing masks and gowns and the whole gambit, and I can’t even get a vacation day off. I’m making less than people are getting from unemployment right now.

This is honestly the biggest sting, people who are still working through the pandemic are not only risking their own health but making less money than people sitting at home and doing nothing. It really doesn't make ANY sense. I think that frontline workers should be receiving this weekly bonus TBH. :saladga:
