Worst single / promotion decisions?

When I say of these decisions for a single, it goes into 3 of these situations:

● Single wasn't wise for radio consumption and is disliked by the general public (also backfired by promotion) a la Perfect Illusion

● Single WAS liked by general public but is backfired by promotion a la The Cure

● Single WAS liked by general public and was promoted greatly but still did not have general success a la Marry the Night

New Romantics really got paid DUST. It was a top 10-worthy single but sis decided to leave it for a tour music video.

The whole Katy Perry Smile Era

Like what is even the lead single :bear:.

No direction, no flow, no plan which has led to a messy rollout of the album and promotion of the single.

If Never Really Over was promoted as the lead single properly, it would have been a hit since it was liked by the general public.

Kylie Minogue - I was gonna cancel. It’s an album track at best. Kiss Me Once, Feels So Good, or Million Miles would have been better singles off Kiss Me Once.

never really over would've been a hit if it was promoted as a lead single, or if she announced KP5 last year.

taylor's "the man" would've been bigger if it was released as the 3rd single from Lover with taylor dressed as Taylor in the video (i couldnt recognize her until the end of the video). Lover (the single) is a great track but also killed the momentum for other singles, should've been 4th or 5th single after the man and cruel summer

Britney's Make me... is a good song, but poor promotion and a lackluster video and boring choreo. she should've performed it on BBMAs along with her greatest hits in 2016.

Katy Perry - Basically all the singles from Prism. Unconditionally already put it on the backfoot and was already a bad choice for Katy as ballads never do that well for her, but at least Dark Horse swooped in to get things on the straight and narrow again, but Birthday officially sunk it and This Is How We Do ended it for good. There were rumours that Katy wanted Legendary Lovers to be a single but obviously, the album was beyond saving at that point. I think Walking On Air was a genuine chance for a hit but never made it past promo single stage. As for Witness, there wasn't much single-worthy stuff on that but we bizarrely got Hey Hey Hey as the final single despite it being such a polarising song and her fans wanting Roulette.

Taylor Swift - End Game was clearly made to be a hit if Reputation started going south, and that's exactly what happened. But a single with these star-studded features should not be this boring and it was clear her fans were never here for it so making it a single was so counter-productive.

Rihanna - The whole Talk That Talk era had the worst singles. Not that there was much single-worthy stuff to begin with but who in the world thought You Da One was acceptable? If it hadn't been for Calvin Harris writing We Found Love and Where Have You Been, that album would've been a complete write-off.

Dua Lipa - The bland Hallucinate being the current single while Cool is not only one of the best songs on the album but actually mentions summer in it while we're currently in the summer is so bizarre, I can't even. How can you make a song clearly meant to be a summer smash and then not put it out?

Lady Gaga - when she had a hit in her hands and let it die, actually is letting it die :poot:

Katy Perry - not releasing Harleys in Hawaii in summer

Taylor Swift - no promo for The Man

Britney Spears - no promo for Mood Ring. It charted on Bubbling Under so it actually has a chance, but...

Dua Lipa - Don't Start Now is overshadowing everything, when there are plenty of single-worthy songs on FN

Nicole Scherzinger "Big Fat Lie" - first single Your Love  was good, Run and On the Rocks were just ok but then Bang  and the rest of album were so disappointing and mediocre. Whatever she would choose for single it would flop. She is great singer but this album was just wrong direction.

AGREED. I don't know why she would put NRO on the album but not make it the lead single... the album isn't even out yet and NRO is most likely the strongest song on the album

Rihanna - Love On The Brain. The song had so much potential and it's one of her best and they never cared about making a music video for it. Luckily climbed the charts and was supported by radio but they really messed up on that part.

Marry The Night tbh.

Decent song, fantastic video, had some incredible live performances.

But Scheisse should have been a single.

MTN should have just been a promo single.
