Interscope has chosen to simply end an era early more often than release an extra single, though. In terms of mainstream releases, ASIB had 1, Joanne had 2, ARTPOP had 1-3, BTW had 5, TFM had 3, and TF had 4. Objectively, not releasing ARUTW was a major (Top 3) miss (it's a WW hit and is her 2nd biggest song on Spotify). Not releasing DITD as a final single during her TF/M peak was a big (Top 6) miss. Not releasing Gypsy to close out ARTPOP was a minor (Top 40) miss.

Born This Way was a disaster all-around, though; by the time the album dropped, 4 songs had been released and turned the massive hype surrounding Gaga into oversaturation, killing what could've been one of the most epic pop eras of all time. Considering:

1. 4 / 6 singles released reached their peak positions on debut (official and promo singles).
2. Judas debuted + peaked at #10 with only 3 days of tracking, a regressive sound (no signs of evolution from TF/M), and controversy.
3. Edge of Glory debuted + peaked at #3 as a *promo* single. It never reached or exceeded its debut on the Chart despite being one of the best tracks on the album.
4. Hair debuted + peaked at #12 as a promo single - not far from the #6 peak You & I, the best-performing post-album single, reached in the US after intensive promo efforts.

The pre-album buzz alone would've ensured 3 #1s if properly rolled-out. Instead of a dance-heavy lead targeting her core fans (gays/ gay allies), /Marry The Night' would've given Gaga a deeper narrative than "leader of misfits." If followed by 'Edge of Glory,' the progression from TF/M > BTW would've been clear: more personal lyricism and a rock-influenced blend of dance-pop. 'You & I' would've been a great promo single (reaching fans of other genres, performing accoustic / rock renditions while ramping up for the album, etc.).

EOG would've smashed as a summer anthem, BTW would've easily hit #1 during Pride month as the 3rd single, and the success of singles 1-3 would've let her be more experimental -- something like a Scheisse / HML medley at the VMAs vs. the core of the album being largely forgotten (Judas, Scheisse, HML, Electric Chapel, Government Hooker).

1. Marry The Night (#1) - 01/2011
[Grammys = MTN]
P1. You & I (#8) - 03/2011 (Promo)
2. Edge of Glory (#1) - 04/2011
3. Born This Way (#1) - 06/2011
4. Scheisse (#4) - 08/2011
[VMA medley of Scheisse / Heavy Metal Lover]
5. Heavy Metal Lover (#8) - 10/2011

MTN, BTW, and EOG + the general hype was a recipe that should've led to an inevitable domination of the Charts. It took work to roll out that era in a way where only one song went #1, and where fighting for the 4th single to go Top 10 had negative pushback that influenced her next era 2 years after.

This is a better single release plan.

I say let Rain on Me ride out the entire summer and by like early september release Free Woman as the 3rd single I guess since it already has an MV filmed apparently. Then by like end of November release the Sour Candy mv and let that be a streaming single only I guess. Collect that 400M+ views on youtube and like 300M+ streams song on spotify with ease and end the era on a nice high note (and then release the Babylon mv and remix as a nice thank you to fans at any point after that). 5 mvs, 3 proper singles (SL, ROM, FW), 1 streaming only single (Sour Candy), 1 promo (?) single (Babylon), nearly 2 billion streams on spotify for Chromatica etc...I call that a successful era imo.

since Chromatica Ball was postoponed she should release as much as possible singles to keep the hype until summer 2021

perfect schedule would be:

August: Free Woman (great summer closer)

October: Replay (Halloween anthem)

2021:

February: Alice

May/June: Sine From Above (final single for the tour promo if it happens)

All of those would flop big time

I think Free Woman could do pretty well with the GP, and I think it's one of the most radio friendly sounding tracks on the album. If these were normal times I think she could make such a great video for it too.

But she did a video for it ;)

I don't think she wants to do that. The radio is not even playing ROM to begin with.

Honestly, I’m not sure there will be a third single and if there is I think it will be the last. I think the best strategy would be to continue to push rain on me for now with more remixes, possibly some recorded performances or maybe a lyric video. Meanwhile pushing albums tracks on streaming playlists, especially like the lesser mood based ones and rising pop while keeping rain on me on today tops hits, they really should be using the 911 viral meme and push it on streaming services and push the meme on TikTok (yes even if that includes getting popular TikTokers to do it) along with simultaneous pushing sour candy on streaming services. I don’t think sour candy would take off as a single now that hype for it has died down and it has already charted, so it would be best to just push it as a fan favorite/streaming hit. It sounds like a music video has been filmed for free woman and maybe Babylon. If there is a third single, they should push free woman at the end of august with big radio and playlist support and maybe a VMAs recorded performance. Babylon should be released near the end of November (SL Late feb, ROM Late May, FW late august and Babylon late November) possibly as a promo single with music video and playlist support for the fans and to boost the albums streams.

I think she could release a 3rd single around end of August or September. By the time her tour starts ( 🤞🏻 ) she could release multiple singles. I’m not too fussed on each single being a massive hit. SL and ROM did great and I like that she isn’t pushing too hard for the album. Might be in the minority but I think it’s actually working in her favour not to over expose and allow people time to like the album even more. So many new releases and artist coming out, from Beyonce to the rumoured Adele song and album, she can still keep releasing in between all other big debuts and give Chromatica the longevity it deserves.
