RRR 3,996
Gaga's media downfall had just started after Born This Way, and after alienating a lot of people by releasing music about empowerment (which is fine, it alienated people that should have been alienated, like homophobes ). She followed up the beginning of this backlash with a song that says "put your hands up, make 'em touch," and "Give me the thing that I love." A truly BOSS move I love it. It's such an alpha female song (Dula Peep who?) Was Releasing Applause a BOSS Move? Discuss
Guest Adarsh
Gaga has always been an alpha. She might be a GUY but she’s also a dom top at the same time. The other girls can’t relate sadly
MelbHawker 6,583
I wouldn't say it was a BOSS move, but it was a fab lead single choice.

paradox 4,568
the only boss alpha move was her leaking aura because her label didn't want it as the lead
Doot 2
It was a great song, sure, my favorite from the album. But a wise move given what she was dealing with in the media at that time? No.

Considering she herself explicitly said to Oprah that all the costumes and crazy stage gimmicks were all a tactic to get people's attention, I think having your lead single in the middle of a controversy with people saying all you want is attention...be about craving attention...probably lol

Anderson123 38,687
It was her label who decided to release Applause as the lead single. In fact, the song almost didn’t even make the cut. Still a pretty cool track though.
