Basic, underwhelming one-word title (how I hate them) and a very unflattering cover. This album does not scream "buy me" and it invites every mocking joke you can fathom. At least she's sticking to her guns and releasing despite Daisies flopping because I wondered if she was keeping quiet lately because it was going to get delayed. But at the same time, it shows Capitol doesn't have the biggest faith in her if they're fine with her having the go-ahead with an album whose lead single just scraped top 40. I just can't get over how nearly all the big names in pop have fallen from grace now. It all seemed to happen so fast and left the landscape very different to how it was just a few years ago. I have the same feeling. When it inevitably fails, she and her fans can use every excuse in the book - it wasn't promoted well, its lead single's original music video got scrapped, she released during a pandemic, she released when she was pregnant, she had a very polarising album title and cover...but does it all count if it was intended? I really think you're convincing yourself of this. Record labels don't just allow artists to release albums of random songs they wrote with no direction. They want an album of hits, a solid direction, a successful release that will sell singles, merch and tour tickets. Releasing albums on a big name label is not about aimless direction and if it's an album of scrapped tracks and deep cuts, it won't have lead singles, music videos and marketing and it may not even chart on the main chart. This is a full-blown studio album and you know it. It's just not working out the way that any other Katy album has before and you're desperately scrabbling for reasons why. And how many second chances are you going to give her? KP5 is supposed to be her big comeback after several years of underperforming and flop singles and now you're saying she'll be just fine and it's KP6 that's going to smash? This isn't reality, sorry. Katy's only had one top 10 single in 6 years, her career's hanging by a thread. If this album flops, the chances of her coming back from this are slim to none. I've yet to see a singer have 2 flop albums in a row make a successful comeback. It’s definitely sad to see the big 2010 pop girls in the state they’re in now. Im happy Gaga has really shown the world her true talent and why she was fit to lead that era of pop, it feels like she’s found a place where she can always be moderately successful because people will always be interested in what she does next. Even if she never achieves that domination anymore (to be fair, I don’t think anyone can) But It feels like no one is even checking For or caring about Katy or Kesha anymore for example sadly

Then she had one of the biggest comebacks ever with TEOM. Joanne & ARTPOP (& C2C but that’s a side project) didn’t exactly perform too well, great albums albeit. But Gaga rose from ashes w/ ASIB. So Katy could come back from this. It’s just the GP needs to want new Katy music which they don’t rn. I would hardly call Charmbracelet a fail, it wasn't a blockbuster success like her previous albums but it wasn't a flop like Glitter and selling 3m would definitely be considered a success today. And while Joanne didn't even have the sales of AP, it felt like it sold more, it was more respected, it had more exposure and had a successful tour. Selling 1m+ copies of an album is considered good in today's climate, so it still did well, all things considered. Katy, on the other hand, had an honest to God flop with Witness. One top 10 hit, an album that sold less than 900k worldwide, a tour where every date was only half full. In comparison, Gaga selling 2.5 million with AP was hardly a flop album to begin with, I don't think she's ever truly flopped. Selling less than 1m when you're a big name is a flop. Struggling for top tens when you used to get #1's easily is a flop and Katy unfortunately had a lot to live up to with Witness, much more than other artists did. She's a victim of her own success. The industry and radio just took it too far with support for Teenage Dream, determined to break that #1 record. She had so much success that a severe downfall was going to be inevitable. What goes up must come down. The higher you rise, the harder you fall. None of us predicted quite how hard it was going to be, though, least of all her. I feel genuinely sorry for her at this point and hope she can continue to find happiness through making music, even if she's not as successful with it, and starting a family. And she's still rich. Luv u Sum 2,396
The cover is pretty actually. I didn’t like it at first cuz it’s super different. But she looks gorgeous and I think the title it cute with the theme. And if anyone does a theme the best it’s Katy. Like honestly.

SEANGT 5,333
I like it, y'all need to reevaluate your lives if you judge music and art based on sales lol. I like that she's leaning in to the extreme camp/cringe and is a clown on her cover. It's what she likes to do.
GagaStefi 1,231
As a stan I'm excited! But I doubt the GP is gonna be on board with this album concept. It doesn't really make sense with Daises as the lead while NRO also being on the album.

I would rather not participate in her gimmicks i feel like youre just choosing to paint this negatively at this point lol i think it’s great that she’s making this a fun moment, rather than just posting the album cover on instagram, like most others. reminds me of when gaga revealed the ARTPOP cover in times square. or was that a gimmick, too? Her last album has sold less than 900k worldwide and her last few singles barely charted or couldn't chart at all. Madonna's albums sold a lot by today's standards, they were just flops by 90's standards. But even so, of course someone like Madonna would be the one exception. But exceptions are rare. Let’s be real - it’s not Taylor or even Gaga numbers but 900k is a LOT of units and Witness is still a young album. and also, regardless of how Witness did, her other albums are still generating a lot of income just by existing. I’m sure at least one person listens to Teenage Dream in full every day, and more likely, several thousand people. just because success isnt happening quickly for Katy’s newer albums doesn’t mean it’s not happening at all. if what you say was a hard fact, we wouldn’t have Chromatica (or even ASIB) as interscope would have dropped Gaga for the comparatively lackluster sales of ARTPOP, C2C, and Joanne to BTW.
