I remember it as something very exciting. The demo for Bad Romance leaked I believe in the late summer on Limewire.
She was teasing the monster theme months prior the release of Bad Romance (with tweets, wearing fangs, etc) so we were kind of expecting something in that theme.

Also, since the Paparazzi video/era was already dark the transition to an ever darker era was very exciting and new. It all started with the VMA’s, from that moment on we knew history was written and whatever was coming next would be legendary. And then it happend: Bad Romance and The Fame Monster.

I completely agree with the VMA-part. It was shocking, dark and over the top. Even her previous performances didn't hint the sudden shock and change.

I remember during The Fame era thinking that her music (though I loved it) didn't quite match up with her extreme fashion. The Fame Monster made a lot of sense as a follow up, it felt like the right sort of evolution and was so exciting.

It's safe to say, the video made more impact than the song?

The video was iconic, not one fan back then complained about it. It was also (if I recall) the second most viewed video on YT at some point, right after Bieber's Baby :excited2:

I didn't ask for a free ride, I only asked you to show me a real good time.

Do you think Fashion and Music Videos played a giant role than the actual music of her?

I have witnessed people had meltdown about changing looks and Gaga was continuously transforming. VMA performance was the moment of revealing Gaga's new persona.

In fact, how can anyone say that the girl who sang just dance and that just wanted to party without thinking about the future is the same as a year later being a bargaining-chip-girl in the iconic Bad Romance video? A game changer!

The music on TF is fantastic and could stand on its own, but everyone was talking about her fashion, visuals and MVs. Every day it was an event. I think it made her an even more exciting new artist.

I remember people were confused because Paparazzi was only increasing on the radio charts still when she released Bad Romance :huntyga: Paparazzi had a lot of life left in it

Thinking about that time makes me nostalgic. We were so gagged when she released BR, it sure is one of her most historic moments of her career. :fatcat:

I remember that Bad Romance was indeed the video with most views on YouTube, then Baby came out and BR was placed as 2nd.

If I’m being honest I HATED bad romance when it came out. Paparazzi was the sing that made me a fan Bc of her softer tone in the song and then bad romance came out and this bitch was like RAH RAH. And I got scared so I never listened to it but then it pulled me in and I got obsessed and here I am still every single day

She low-key transitionned well with the VMA's Paparazzi performance into the thematic of horror... Then at SNL.

Aesthetically, first. Then she sung an acoustic live of Bad Romance. It was also very shocking to discover The Fame Monster, but it felt very natural. There was also a leak of Alejandro..

hello hello baby.

Makes me think of the things that could’ve happened had Alejandro and BR not leaked. BBB would’ve been a single but wouldn’t be as smooth as a transition.

As far as I can remember it went by so fast. Although you can already see the goth obsession creeping in around LoveGame. After the VMA performance it was getting darker but boy no one was prepared for the BR vid. It was really a complete revamp. I remember at that time not believing that BR Gaga and The Fame Gaga was the same person. The fashion became more polished but freakier at the same time. The hairstyle and makeup was a drastic change. She became more vampy. Everyone and their mother went wild over it. As much as the BR video was big, I’d say the song was equally as big too. It gave pop music a clean slate.

Then came the album. The visuals were a departure from the gaudiness of the 2000s. Everything was sleek. Probably because Hedi Slimane more than just a year out of Dior Homme had a hand in it. It wasn’t until a year later that visual identities for pop albums became sleeker. The songs sounded different too. Overall though everything happened so fast, and with such you adapt things faster too.

It was cultural reset, everybody was here for it. There wasn't a constant scrutiny of her every move at that time.

She was still this mysterious pop figure that people were attracted to like a moth to a flame. :vegas:

I loved it, I especially fell in love with the Bad Romance demo and couldn’t understand why everyone hated it even Gaga saying “it makes my ears bleed” I mean the final version is better but that song promised a good era and it was. Till this day this song is still my all time favorite of hers.
