reysus 1,064
i think this is his version of the saying that if you don't know your history it will repeat itself. i dont fully know where i stand on statues of very prominent historical figures like washington and other founding fathers being up, but it is definitely important that we understand the roles that these people had in developing America, good and bad. who knows what he actually meant by that comment tho
shoful 13,304
It doesn’t sound as bad when he said it in the video but still.... I understand his view on preserving history so we remember it but Idt keeping statues of slave owners is the way to go Also not really sure where I stand with removing statues of like our first President and stuff. It’s a very messy situation. It should be down to Black peoples opinions on these statues, its not my place to decide, but idk how that would be voted on or anything We should be taking down statues of Slave owners and horrible people but we should also make sure we never forget about these injustices that black people faced and still face to this day. BillieGOAT 5,272
He was making a general statement that if you don’t learn from history you’ll repeat it, which I largely agree with.. but that doesn’t apply to removing memorials and statues of bad people. There’s a difference between remembering history and commemorating it. F*ck slave owners, culture and historical context be d*mned. The worst part of this interview for me was when the interviewer said “You’ve done so much for the African-American community” Like.. I’m sorry.. WHERE? WHAT? They don’t even try to hide their lies and propaganda anymore
Head Empty 26,967
Maybe we should be putting up statues of some... prominent... European leaders to remind America of the worlds political history
TimisaMonster 31,073
I am not one for defending him but I don't think he meant slavery will happen again towards blacks He is saying preserve the history...learn from it and change the current state of society...erasing the past and pretending it didn't happen doesnt change anything. Are we gonna remove George Washington from every street, coin, Bill, statue, TV show, etc? He is known as the first president...not honored for owning slaves... RahrahWitch 6,985
His logic (and there's not a lot of it) is flawed. By taking down statues it doesn't erase history, Statues are made to commemorate someone, A slave owner deserves no commemoration. I'm sick of this idiotic argument, You don't need to publicly showcase someone/something for people know it's history. History on those figures will still be taught. JRCF29 8,230
The clickbait of this title, chile, and really the whole article. He was using "you" as an impersonal first of all, and second of all he's talking about remembering the worst aspects of our history so that we realize why and just how wrong it was. He is making the case that the stains on the history of the country should be on display so we can continue to be proud of how far we've come and make sure this generations and all subsequent generations never go back down the path. The good and the bad are part of any country's history, America in this case, and that's what he's talking about. It's akin to saying "learn your history or you're doomed to repeat it." I don't care if you don't like him, but let's not try and suggest he 'threatened African-Americans with slavery.' Please Don't Call Me Gaga
