I re-read my friend's post and paraphrased it above. The idea is for him to force Trump to drop so that he can claim the Republican nomination for himself. 

Not saying that any of this is true though. Just reporting on a rumor I heard.

IMO if Trump loses (which I don't think he will) Trump will go lowkey for a while and then slowly he'll be accepted back into celeb culture over the next few years.

Yeah I think he would rather drop out of the race than EVER lose. He would rather try and act like "I was going to win, but I dropped out for this reason" and make up an excuse. Also yeah if he loses or drops out I think he will flee the country.

And election can be done on booth in person or by mail in ballot.

Mail in is done in advance. 

As for mail in ballots, some states doing it differently, some not needed excuse, some all mail in,  some need excuse for absentee voting.

And there will be two kinds of votes that considered, popular votes, and Electoral votes.

Electoral College is a body of legislative officials that directly elects the president of The USA. They chooses the president based on state vote totals. 

US Federal system, at present, consists of 50 sovereign states, The Congress, and Presidency. There are also judicial branches at both State and Federal level. The idea was that it is The States, not The Congress, that decides who will be President. And as such, The President of The USA is really working in the behalf of The States, not the people.

Each State is allotted a fixed number of Electors. And each State can decide for itself whom those individuals will be. And while Washington DC isn't a State, it can be treated as one  when it comes to Presidential election.

If a President candidate got enough Electoral votes, the popular votes don't matter anymore. Which is what happened when Trump wins over Hillary, or G.W.Bush in 2000 over Al Gore. Both Hillary and Gore won popular vote that time.

Also, fyi, as for 2020, all citizens in my state, California, will be doing mail in ballot because of COVID-19, it is an executive order issues by our Governor, Gavin Newsom on May 8 2020.
