I support canceling people sometimes, but this kind of canceling is clearly made for personal entertainment. We should focus on actual racism that effect people specially in this time. This is not the time to cancel Youtubers for things we already know they did in the past and is kinda harmless. Im not saying what she did is okay because im not Asian or understand the context of western culture.

This is the thing about "cancel culture"....I don't really understand why so many people online act like they're angels sent from above. Personally, I think the need to "cancel" people should go on a case-by-case basis. Obviously, people like Harvey Weinstein and Bill Cosby deserved to be cancelled. They deserve more than that; they deserve to rot for the rest of their lives. And more "internet famous" people like Jeffree Star, I also believe should be cancelled. He has a very dark and disturbing past, but he's also proven that he hasn't really changed since then. 

Someone like Shane Dawson, imo, is more nuanced. Obviously all the racist, homophobic, sexist, pedophilic, etc. jokes are not okay, at all. No one should be arguing that. However, do I think Shane has changed somewhat since then? Yeah, a little. And that can be seen by the fact that he hasn't made that kind of content for years. That said, ultimately I still agree that he should be cancelled and that he deserves to be called out for his past content, even though he has apologized for it already.

However, going back to my original point: we, the audience, have accepted this kind of behavior. With Shane Dawson, for example, he became famous off of that kind of sick and disgusting content for a reason. People thought it was funny, people thought it was "cool" and "edgy," people ate it up. I find it ironic that people are so quick to call others out when we have enabled  this kind of behavior for years. Yes, ultimately it's still the individual's fault for making abhorrent content, but it takes more than one person to become famous. We should all be doing some reflection.

Well, to be clear, I  didn't think it was "cool" and "edgy." I'm just saying that a lot of people enjoyed watching that kind of content back then. I was never a huge fan of that kind of shock humor. 

That said, interestingly enough, today I love watching people like Brandon Rogers. It's weird cause he makes very similar content (i.e. the outlandish sketches and the really raunchy and inappropriate jokes), yet, I haven't seen him get cancelled for it. 

But like I said in that post, ultimately, I do agree that Shane should be held accountable for the content he put out. It's just gross and disgusting. 

That said, I also feel like we are to be blamed as well. We enabled that behavior and we can't act like, "Wow, I can't believe Shane (or anyone else) did that. It's so gross." Like, no, you can believe that. It's been around on the Internet forever. Y'all were the ones who enjoyed that kind of content that made them famous in the first place.

We all need a slice of humble pie, imo.
