AHS has me jamming to Fleetwood Mac

My unparallelled smashing taste in music had me jamming to FM a long time ago.  :lmao:

You continue to surprise me with your depth into musical archives......emoticons8.gif

I can't say I'm a guru of rock trivia. There are so many bands I liked, I didn't bother to keep up with the details. I would enjoy reading an overview of their careers, though. I guess I'm just a rock connoisseur, I enjoy the range and variety within the genre.

I don't explore other genres as I would like. Sometimes, when a friend is hardcore into rap or country, I'll listen to their stuff and pick and choose the songs I like. However, with rock most of the time, I feel at home. I grew up in a desert town and we had great rock radio stations that I miss to this day. They played much more than your major stations, so I connected with a variety of different rock whether hard rock, heavy metal, alternative, some punk, and classics, even some psychedelic stuff. Stations in the Dallas area seem so limited, especially those Clear Channel stations in comparison. And the other big factor was my brother, who has been a metal head since I was a toddler. His collection of rock and metal records is practically a wall of glory compared to my humble batch. He listens to hard, take no prisoners stuff that even makes me quiver at times, but I grow accustomed to their sound over time. Some metal is like wine and beer, people hate at first because it's so loud and different, like a bitter beer. Then you get used to it, understand the lyrics and begin to look forward to it.

Anyways, I take pride in my rock music range, to me it is still a glorious genre that is a part of me. It's so odd I'd find myself on a pop forum like this. A combination of things, like Gaga's industrial sounds, her being Italian and good looking, her love of metal, and even the spirit she tried to put into the Born This Way era had the aroma of a rocker chick doing pop music. I remember fans hating the original BTW cover, but it was a very metal/rock type of cover! as well as her leather/latex fashions at the time. Some of it may have been Luc Carl influenced, but she echoed it well enough on her own. I didn't appreciate as much then as I do now. I see it and enjoy when she wears those rock band T- shirts.

I'm just one of those odd fellas around here I guess. Go figure... :adam:

The character who jams to Fleetwood Mac on AHS sort of reminds me of you for some reason. The reference and inclusion of that great band is glorious. :legend:

My older brother was a singer in a local band, so I grew up listening to a lot of practicing in my family's basement. I know what you mean when you talk about your older brother. Rock bands were the thing when I was growing up. Thanks for sharing your story....your are amazing!

When you hear musical instruments played within 10 feet of where you are, you become (deaf) a true lover of the music played. It just flows through you. That was then. Rock music will always be my first choice but I have such a wide love of music that I can often see parts of a song that are so unique and why they are liked by some listeners.

It was too late last night; I just now got this joke.  :haha:  I imagine one would just soak it up until it permeates every fiber of one's being.  I think that's why people like small intimate clubs with good quality live music - I know I do.  There are times I'd take a small gathering over a large concert arena.  Which is also why, sometimes, I'd rather listen to Gaga in these smaller venues or clubs she plays post-concert sometimes.  I do hear a little something I like within the songs I'm not crazy about.  They may not be my first choices, but I try to understand why others may connect with them on a personal level (mainly rap).  I like some of it, but what's a sweet Midwest-born girl from the sheltered suburbs have in common with it?  Joking somewhat.  :P

I guess it all depends on the person, because while some people soak up the sound of the instruments and learn to appreciate it, others learn to just drown it out, and see it as nothing but noise. I've grown up with many friends in bands and with family members banging on drum sets and such, and some people in the same circle just don't have the same appreciation for the "noise."

Though, I feel that most of us who post in this thread love the rocker chick we all know is inside Gaga, something which unifies us, in my opinion. I really do miss that whole energy she injected into BTW; I know she's still the same girl, but the whole BTW era had this classic rock vibe that will probably ensure that BTW stays my favorite Gaga album forever. There's one look in particular I remember, when she wore a full-leather catsuit with Porcelain Black styled hair (half black, half white) and performed on the Howard Stern Show. The whole ensemble felt like something straight out of the 80's, and that's not something you would see from a typical pop artist these days. I see Gaga as more of an 80's rock star performing as a modern day pop star than anything else. I love the fact that she can't be purely defined as one thing or another; she's a hybrid. There are so many different genres of music, that there's no need to limit ourselves to just one or two. Today's music is growing more and more experimental, forming a melting pot which hybridizes multiple genres and rejects the boundaries of musical labels. Whenever people ask me what type of music I'm into, I just say "good music." That's pretty much all it takes, haha. Doesn't matter what genre it is, so long as it's good. I know that many people critiqued ARTPOP for not being consistent, but I think the fact that it was a fusion of multiple genres was brilliant. Gaga was trying to open up her fans to different types of music, whether they be pop, rock, R&B, or whatever. Now that's something that deserves Applause. :derpga:

Wow, great read - I felt like I was reading a music article!  :)  I agree with everything you stated.

You know, by the same token, while listening to "my" music, I try to hear it the way someone who is not a fan would, so I can understand why they may not like it.  I try to understand people's points of view.  After all, music, much like life, is really a give and take proposition.

Haha, thanks, maybe I should go into the business. :P

I do that a lot too, mostly when I listen to a song too often and get too used to it. Scheiße, for example, is the most played song on my iPod and on my iTunes (because it was one of the main songs I'd listen to while working out). To ensure that I didn't get sick of the song, I would always try and listen to it as though I were hearing it for the first time, and as though I wasn't a fan of Gaga's music. It's really awesome, because when you force yourself to listen to music in that way, you start noticing things in the song that you had never noticed before. Certain synths, guitar riffs, backing vocals, changing octaves and so on and so forth, become apparent, and it makes you have a new appreciation for the song. I usually just identify people not liking certain songs as a byproduct of different musical tastes and upbringings, but I always respect that they may not like certain aspects of a song that appeal to others. What I tend to do is listen to songs that I may not entirely enjoy, and try to see how other people enjoy them and appreciate everything that goes into the song.

I used to be a fan of Red Hot Chili peppers and then I got sick of them and now I'm coming around again to wanting to hear them.

This happens to me pretty much every other month, haha. One month I like them, the next month I'm sick of them, and then a month after that, I'm cool with them again. :smh:

Probably the three most popular blink-182 songs ever, and rightly so. Gotta give props to The Rock Show, too:
