Bradley 58,648
I just realised that Gaga and The Weeknd's career trajectories are pretty similar to each other, well at least since 2015 after Beauty Behind the Madness. In February 2016, both Gaga and The Weeknd got nominated for their first Academy Award for Best Original Song, for Til It Happens to You and Earned It, respectively. They both lost to the iconique first gay man to ever win an Oscar. On October 2016, Joanne was released. On November 2016, Starboy was released. Both albums would go on to have tours in 2017 and were amongst the strong contenders for Album of the Year. However, both were left out and not nominated for Album of the Year. Joanne and Starboy would go on to win one Grammy. Best Urban Contemporary Album (its former name) was Starboy's only nomination and win. Gaga left home empty handed until Joanne (song) won her a Grammy next year. In 2018, neither released a studio album and went for a side project instead. The Weeknd released My Dear Melancholy, his EP, and Gaga starred in A Star Is Born. In 2020 when the Covid-19 pandemic hit the world, many countries were hastily put into lockdown in March. The Weeknd and Gaga were amongst the very few major pop acts to release an album during a pandemic. They both scheduled for a summer tour, but both were forced to delay for one whole year. Once again, both Chromatica and After Hours are strong contenders for Album of the Year. I want them both to win AOTY at some point in their careers, and we never know what will happen next year, but it's Chromatica's time (hopefully) . Apparently some insiders are saying Interscope's gonna campaign hard for Gaga's Album of the Year, though The Weeknd is also an Interscope artist. I find it quite fascinating how they keep finding themselves in a position where they're in an album cycle at the same time, competing at the same award shows and both faced award losses despite being musical legends. Edit: Oo how could I forget this. King has been supporting her since the beginning
