It’s not THAT bad but again, these posts got a **** ton of likes and the comments are all agreeing. While the ROM video was cool, I genuinely feel like the GP would EAT if Gaga released one of the weirder songs as the next single (Replay, Babylon or 911). At this point it’s less about having a stable hit (we already have ROM) / kissing radio’s a$$ and more about rekindling the GP’s interest in her music and artistry. Singles are meant to be GP friendly. That’s whole point. If ROM is too “basic” then it’s doing it’s job, and it’s doing it pretty well since it hasn’t left the top 10. Thank you, next. Ppl may call it generic, but if “generic” is getting some of her biggest sales, vastly positive responses from critics, a STUNNING music video, and one of her best chart positions globally, then so be it! Tbh some of the tik tokers are like 10 yrs old so I wouldn’t trust their taste AT ALL lol. But then again, promo is promo, they're talking about it, it's getting exposure. Loads of people like the song, otherwise it wouldn't be charting so well. And amongst all the rap music, that's a massive achievement in 2020 - akin to the successes of Dua and The Weeknd. The music industry currently undergoing a slight shift - even Little Mix's news music is very 80s and retro. Gaga's definitely back to the weird too. The Rain On Me video was classic Gaga, the bridge, the outfits, the symbolism... SL was cute and that seems to be universally loved by critics. i can't see Interscope wanting to take a risk with Replay or even 911. They're clearly pulling out the big guns for a big pop era with all the playlist payola and stuff. I think they just wanted one big pop era and a massive stadium tour.
