matteonster 437
I quite like the album, I think there are some good songs on it: Cry about it later, Daisies, Smile, Only love etc. The things that throw me off is the visual concept and the order of the songs because there could have been a great story out of all these. I would have put Not the end of the world as a start and then Daisies as closure just to have some progress throughout the record. I would have liked a more mature visual concept but maybe that’s just me. Anyways, I think it’s a solid work. “Don't you ever let a soul in the world tell you that you can't be exactly who you are.”
LOVE FOOLISH 202
Wow this album is a lot more cohesive than I expected! It’s so good omg the love I have for Katy continues since One of the Boys I’ve been sleeping on NRO, Daisies, and Smile. They really fit with the album and I appreciate them a lot more. I felt the same way with Stupid Love and ROM of Chromatica. Smile coming after Not the End of the World was unexpected but wow it was a good kind of whiplash I don’t get the hate Resilient is getting the strings are what made the song for me. I’m a sucker for strings since I absolutely vibe with classical music lol I am definitely going to buy the picture disc! I absolutely love every track and can’t find any skips. HIH is a grower for me lyrically, but the beat is *chef’s kiss* ALSO Not the End of the World reminds me of Ordinary Life by The Weeknd! It is something about the beat and the way they sing it too. I’m not complaining though, Starboy era is one of the most iconic Abel has ever done. Lastly, my favorites (so far) are NRO, Cry About It Later, Teary Eyes, Not the End of the World, Tucked, and What Makes a Woman. Could we get a WMAW and FW mashup please
Hurem 17,800
Tears Eyes, Not The End of The World and Tucked are all great. What Makes A Woman is 10/10 as well.
seba 291
I have listened to the whole album and I know one thing - I will never come back to it. the songs, apart from one good and old NRO (released over a year ago), are very average level. it is a kind of random music, sung by random nameless artists, that you hear in the background while shopping at the supermarket. at times it is so infantile that I felt shivers of embarrassment on my back. i think katy is cool, but to be honest - this album is just sooo weak and stuck together without any good idea. NRO is undoubtedly a bop, to which unfortunately a dozen boring songs were stuck to make an album ...
macca 1,315
24hrs later and loving this album! TOP 4 BY FAR: Cry about it later - one of my favorite songs this year. THE GUITAR. Epic, groundbreaking brilliant. Hopefully the next single. Teary Eyes - dance perfection, reminds me of 1000 doves Champagne Problems - Certified BOP! So catchy. Only Love - Emotional, such beautiful lyrics. Bottom: Tucked, Resilient, Smile and What Makes A Woman are rubbish. The remainder sit in the middle. Kattys 4,319
Wow this album turned out to be really good for me. As always GP isn’t ready for quality pop music... I don’t get the hate, it’s solid piece of work Really cool instrumentals!
PrinceOfTheStorm 5,904
So I had low expectations for listening to this album but I will say it was better than what I expected? It was good but not great. It was not bad but it could of been better. Sure I probably won’t listen to some of these songs ever again but its not to discredit the concept of the album. I really dont like the sound she stuck to again since its just typical Katy Perry pop but the lyrics are something that show a sense of growth as a person? I love the concept of her having absolute resentment for everything until the final track “What Makes A Woman” in which she tells herself “there it is Kathryn”, her smile. Damn I was shook. The message of some of these songs are really good even if they’re a tad boring to listen to. I’d say it’s a 7/10 at most because I’m feeling generous to say it’s above mediocre for its themes of a journey as a person. Her pregnancy seemed to really have made her grow which props to her honestly. But I still wish she’d explore something new sonically even if its still in the same genre of pop. She doesn’t need to venture off to something so off of pop, but a new style. I wasn’t really fond of a lot of the songs and it wasn’t helped by the fact her older songs from the past year got stapled onto this one and vetoed other songs she had for it but its not bad. Better than Witness and One of the Boys but weaker than TD and Prism. Tracks I’m fond of: - Never Really Over - Cry About It Later - Teary Eyes - Champagne Problems - Harleys in Hawaii - Only Love signing out
StrawberryBlond 14,102
I thought this was actually going to turn out ok but it was just under par, as usual. Favourite tracks are NRO, Cry About It Later, HiH, Only Love, What Makes A Woman and NWW. And considering we already knew of 3 of those before the album, this is underwhelming. The rest of it is just mediocre at best, very bland and forgettable. There is no sign of this circus theme that she spoke of and it sounds like it was a bunch of songs thrown together at the last minute. The standard edition is just 36 minutes long, consisting of 2 songs that were released quite a while back and it all sounds so repetative. What Makes a Woman is inexplicably just over 2 minutes when it could quite easily have been longer and better - one more verse could've really sold it but it was kept frustratingly simple. The fact such a short song made the cut and wasn't expanded upon to at least take it to 2:30 shows that it was an afterthought that was tacked on to make the album longer. Filler track after filler track. This is not the sound of a comeback album. She's been away too long to come back with music so weak and demo-sounding. And no features to help her chart better would suggest that she wasn't chasing hits but if so, why couldn't she have gone all out and made something quite different? I don't understand why she wouldn't even put NWW on the standard, to increase its good track ratio. I know it didn't chart but she put HiH on it and that didn't chart. The song's about her upcoming marriage and her pregnancy, why did it get sidelined? I'm convinced she had the pressure on her to release something soon and just rushed it. I imagine that being engaged and getting pregnant in 2019 were her focus and she wasn't as bothered with being in the studio. But Witness came out over 3 years ago now and tanked, so I imagine Capitol was maybe breathing down her neck, telling her to get a move on making an album, pregnancy or no pregnancy. Now she's got the double whammy of a pandemic limiting her in other ways and this really hasn't helped the roll-out. I hope she just goes all out and makes the album she truly wants next time. Smile gives her the answer that her time as a chart topper is definitely over so she really has nothing to lose.
Gagaloo911 12,959
I listened to the album last night. It's an alright album. Not horrible, but also not great. The standout song for me was Only Love. Imo it's the only great song on the album, with a great message and very chill vibe to it especially on the chorus. The other songs I thought were good were Tucked, NRO, Daisies and Teary Eyes. The rest of the songs are pretty meh and not very good. Also, idk where y'alls taste went, but Cry About It Later is just NOT it. Pretty mediocre at best.
