The Last of Us Part II shatters sales records amid controversies

Some of you who keep track of things happening in the gaming world probably know the rocky beginnings for The Last of Us Part II release, and that the controversies and outrage was surrounding the game basically since the first trailer dropped... That outrage amplified when earlier in the year the story got leaked...

Upon release the game was review-bombed - basically, not even 12 hours after it's release over 5 thousand people submitted rates on metacritic, driving the user score of the game to 3.2... The game is over 20 hours long, so likely people sending their scores didn't even play the game... Currently it sits at 4.6, in stark contrast to 94 which it got from the critics... 

It's worth pointing out that 88k people submitted scores for Part II, whereas Part I only has 10k user scores 

Now, my personal take is - by no means is the game perfect, but it is far from 3.2/10, and having spent some time looking through tweets about the game, it becomes very clear A LOT of people took issue with some characters being LGBT in the game... like, A LOT - I lost track of people saying 'this is what happens when you listen to sjws' and 'I hate political agenda being shoved down my throat' - this game brought all the bigots out of the woodwork 

So, taking that into account, I can't help but feel a level of pride for the fact that this is the fastest-selling PS4 game... ever... In the 3 days it's been out it has sold 4 million copies. For comparison, the game that previously held that record, Spider-Man, sold 3.3 million copies in the same time-frame

I mean, what else can I say - you love to see it

All the people who have been screaming about how bad the game is because it got 'political' (but they are totally cool with gays, y'all) can STAY F*CKING PRESSED

I dont have a PS4 so I haven't had time to watch the play throughs online, but what is so controversial? I've read that there are LGBT+ characters but what has people getting all pissy?

I actually had a meltdown and cried after I watched twitch  Because so many people were bitching about Lev and making disgusting jokes about him and about Abby's body

I mean, as far as I can tell there are two types of people who are upset with the game - ones who are genuinely upset that not only the game's main character is an overt lesbian, but it also has a character who's trans... and then there are the ones who basically want a rehash of the first game and who got pissed cuz... well, if you're gonna watch the playthrough, you'll see what they did

For some reason this franchise is not attractive for me, like I was about to buy the 1st but then I changed my mind.

the gameplay looks too complicated.

I played it and the story is very polarizing. The trailers were incredibly misleading, and the game goes in a vastly different direction from how it appeared.

I was pretty mixed on it overall. It was incredibly gruesome and dark (not great for this moment in the world) and  not really all that fun. The game mechanics, play style and visuals are all top notch though, so  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'll probably never play it again bc it was so dark and I really wasn't a huge fan of the story, but that's just me  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

She's like a 6. Not as good as the first and the twist and ending are infuriating. But it looks nice and it plays well. Also, its funny that people were mad that LGBT characters are in it when

They get brutalized and the trans man gets dead named a few times.

Just some homophobic/transphobic gamers complaining about there being LGBT characters. But a lot of people really just hate what happens in the story and those people are getting conflated with the first group.

Also yeah, it's... like, you can so easily tell that people didn't even bother looking into the game and are just going by what others have said about it, when they assume Abby is the trans character... I've seen so many of those

It was so messy before the game even got released with people saying Abby was trans and hating the game just for that and when they found out she wasn't they still hated on it for her being "unrealistically buff" and after that they hated it because the game changed its "dynamics"

To be fair, I assumed she was trans since the first trailer with her in it up until I played it

Gamers blaming stuff on "the sjws" in this case is kind of funny considering some lgbt people hate how the lgbt characters are treated in this game.

Yup, it's so f*cking gross... I've literally got into fights with some people on fb over this cuz I've seen people unironically share ARTICLES about how western female characters are 'ugly' and they used Ellie and Abby as examples

I'm sorry, but Ellie is gorgeous  And I loved Abby and her part of the game, because felt like a total badass playing by her

To be honest, they made Dina so bland in the game, sigh 

Lesbian love story had a great potential, but I think they wasted it (DLC was so much better with that)

But as I know their main critique was towards Lev and his story in the game (I actually fell in love with this character )
