Facebook faces advertiser revolt over failure to address hate speech.

Several companies have suspended advertising on Facebook over the company’s failure to address hate speech on the platform.

The outdoor apparel and product retailers the North Face, REI, and Patagonia have pledged not to pay for advertising on Facebook platforms as part of the “Stop Hate for Profit” campaign, launched Wednesday by advocacy groups including the Anti-Defamation League, the NAACP, and the Color Of Change. The freelance job listing site Upwork and the internet company Mozilla have also joined the pledge.

Verizon is pulling its advertising from Instagram and Facebook, the biggest name so far in a growing movement to boycott the social network for not doing enough to stop hate speech on its platforms.

The company said on Thursday it will join other companies including Ben & Jerry’s, Patagonia and REI in suspending advertising from Facebook-owned platforms until the company “can create an acceptable solution that makes us comfortable”.

The “Stop Hate for Profit” campaign was launched Wednesday... It asks advertisers to pressure the tech giant to adopt stricter policies against racist and hateful content on its platforms by pausing all spending on advertising with the company for the month of July.

Their report system is dumb, you can report multiple times about racist groups and they tells you that it's not violating their rules, but then you check their rules and it says that hate speech is not allowed.

Or you report a fake account with pictures of someone that you know and they tell you that it's not a fake account lol

So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy

I hate our digital age jsjsjs

as an 04 baby, i never got to experience those things and i WISH that i did. Something more simple and humbling rather than something run by a tech giant who is actively spying on its users..

I've had posts of mine removed for being pro-gay ("sexually explicit" when the most hardcore thing the guys did was kiss). Yet when anti-choice memes picturing aborted fetuses get posted, they're left up despite how many times they're reported.

Whimsical bitch

Freedom of expression makes this more complicated that it seems.

These companies are also Facebook competition in a way or another.
