Again, no one was out here trying to cancel her. Like seriously. Wtf. She overreacted IMO, and I don’t see how others don’t see that. I think people should be held accountable for their past actions, even if that just means issuing a simple apology. I don’t know why that upset Jenna so much, but it clearly did. And that’s lame. I’m very disappointed in her.

It's 2020 and we said enough white celebrity fragility. Because that's what this is. If you cannot apologize and move on for being racist, bye bye. Especially if you churn out a short half assed apology where she does that copout "if you were offended" bs. First you say she shouldn't have quit her channel. Then you say she should quit her channel. Are you glad she left bc of her fragility or are you mad she left bc of her fragility? I am quite sure she is more attuned to what people are commenting and saying about her than you are, so even if you haven't seen people attempting to "cancel her," that does not mean she hasn't.. she has many media platforms across which she would be receiving these messages (twitch, her podcast, YouTube, ig, and so on). Not trying to be a **** to you at all but i genuinely dont, especially being disappointed in her. She made a video with an apology for her previous videos which people found offensive, removed them and doesnt monetize them for money. It wasnt a 'sorry you were offended' kind of apology either, doesnt wanna upset people and has decided to leave her channel for a while or maybe indefinitely. So did you want her to not say anything at all? Or just pretend it never happened? Or deleting her channel? "GGD IS NOT FOR YOU" - Admin
MJHolland 12,725
Jenna Marbles herself blew this out of proportion, and that's the last thing I'll say about this situation in this thread. I dislike the backlash towards "cancel culture" because I absolutely think celebrities should be held accountable for things they've done. Also, she said "if you were offended, I apologize" a dozen times. Lame and disappointing.
RahrahWitch 6,985
I think this was more her decision than anything else. She did some offensive things there's no way around it, I'm not Asian or Black so I can't speak on forgiveness or if it was offensive or not. I will say these are very tame but Jenna is a very compassionate person and recognizes that while many might be okay with it there's a few that aren't and she wants to do right by them. I respect her decision to leave for now and taking down the videos. On the subject of cancel culture I think it's ultimately a good thing, though it does go too far sometimes. She was eventually gonna get dogged on it for years onwards, let’s be real. Plus, you cant hold a stranger accountable over a screen. Shane Dawson has been cancelled 275 times and yet still exists and has a platform. He’s apologized many times but no one cares. Everyone sees this obsession over canceling for what it really is: a self righteous cyberbullying campaign to hopefully bully celebs they don’t like off the internet, NOT a serious talk about what went wrong and hope for improvement in the future. Every famous person fears that. Jenna is smart to get out ahead of the game bc she knows being a genuinely nice human who makes mistakes isn’t an excuse anymore. And I don’t know why “if” is lame. It’s not saying “apparently you’re offended” it’s “to those who were offended.”

LibraOctober98 3,501
I honestly think she was tired of making videos anyway, this was just another reason to stop. I cant accept her apology, as a white person, but um.... this whole situation is wack

Jenna isn't perfect, no one is, but compared to so many people she is a genuine person that tries her best, and I think all of her fans can clearly see this. The fact that people were trying to cancel her to the point where she is now leaving her channel is so sad. I know this seems dramatic, but I've watched her every Wednesday/thuresday for 9 years. I grew up with her and her videos and now its gone. Idk I guess I just want to know if there is anyone else as upset about this as I am, because this is so unexpected. Edit: Obviously there are things that people do/say in their past that are unforgivable, but cancel culture has gotten to the point where no one seems to care about growth. The early 2000's and 2010's were a different time. Jokes were more insensitive and that sucks, but many people who made such comments have spent the last decade proving that they aren't like that anymore. If Jenna Marbles of all people is being cancelled, no one in pop culture is safe. I don't think she's reacting to anyone cancelling her. She didn't say they were. She just felt bad about her past content all on her own. I don't think this says much about the culture as much as it says about her being sensitive to others' feelings, which is good. nickkoko 922
I really commend her for this video because she took accountability and genuinely apologized. Did she need to leave the platform? Maybe, maybe not, but that's all up to her and it can be for a whole host of reasons other than this stuff that has come out. It also just kind of sucks that somebody as good-hearted and genuine as Jenna is leaving the platform, while people like Jeffree Star can get in drama/scandals every other week and come out just fine. But that just speaks to how much better of a person Jenna is, and how much she has actually grown since the "problematic" videos.

Maybe a dozen people were calling on “cancelling” Jenna. And it might’ve all been the same person making bot accounts lmao. Like almost every person in this thread, the first I heard about Jenna being “cancelled” was when she uploaded this video. Can you honestly say you weren’t blindsided by this news? Cancel culture = holding people accountable. There are consequences for your actions, always! But adults don’t break down crying and quit their jobs because of a tiny little criticism. That’s just immature.
