JRCF29 8,230
A day after the FBI determined that the "noose" found in African-American NASCAR driver Bubba Wallace's garage was not, in fact, a noose, but rather a garage door pull-cable fashioned in the shape of a noose- and had been there since October, well before Wallace was assigned the garage last week- he went on the Today Show to give an interview. Wallace seemed to at least partially double down on the story, insisting that the cable "was definitely in the shape of a noose". Many on Twitter took issue yesterday and into today with NASCAR and Wallace's initial description of the cable, which suggested that the item in question was a hangman's noose and placed there to send a racist, threatening message to the driver; In actuality, the cable just had a loop on the end for one to put their hand through and pull, but was not a "noose" as had been implied. #BubbaSmollet was a briefly trending topic on the social media platform, a callback to Jussie Smollett's staged "hate crime" in Chicago.
