KarmaPolice 4,731
Guys I didn't want to start another debate. She did sound strained and that's a fact. I know it may sound pretentious but as a singer you can instantly hear when someone struggles to reach a note: take shallow, she started wonderfully but at the end of enigma she was literally screaming it. The Jazz residency was more obvious since songs were much harder to sing and she started skipping high notes (an example down below, thowards the climax of the song). She defintely had a problem, but as I said it was probably be due to overwork and as other pointed out too much smoking/drinking.

I know she sang wonderfully in recent performances.

I don't know about you but Joanne (WDYTYG) is very angelic. Deep doesn't mean bad. I love it this way. 15 hours ago, MelbHawker said: Gurl. Chromatica does have vocals that are the most challenging for her especially considering the extensive head voice use which is hard for her. Listen to the album carefully next time. OT: I have definitely thought this myself too. If you're singing for hours during the day, your voice WILL be tired by the night no matter how much you hydrate. It happens to me. And girl also tries to do a lot of demanding belting during Enigma. Check out iTunes data & graphs at CHARTPOP.live

I was just watching this video - I feel like "Serve it ancient city style" only really goes till a C3. Am I wrong? Also, this bitch can sing F2? My tenor boyfriend probably can't. I used to think I could sing exactly one octave below her (which is true for the most part) but I absolutely cannot sing an F1. The lowest I've ever done was A1 and that was one day. Usually my lowest is C to C#2. Edit: Wait I think there are a lot of mistakes in this. I don't think she ever sings F#5 or G5 in 1000 Doves or Sine From Above respectively. They got it wrong Check out iTunes data & graphs at CHARTPOP.live

She actually doesn't belt in half of the choruses, but belting doesn't always mean difficulty. Depending on the melody/rythm or words, it can sometimes be harder to sing in a soft way (almost whispering) than to belt Some sounds are kinda easy to belt (ee, oh) wereas others are EXTREMELY difficult (the long "I" if it's not sung in a classical style). Fun Tonight probably has the hardest chorus, mainly because of that "I" at the beginning of the chorus, you can tell that she struggles, which is totally normal. I would say that Born This Way is her most vocally challenging album though, she sings ALOT more than on Chromatica, and her vocals are more diverse

Enigma, Fun Tonight, Sine From Above, 1000 Doves' choruses are all belted. Belting doesn't mean you have to substain a note, it can also be a phrase. MOT 3,196
@KarmaPolice @adamsenigma @zebulonpyke You guys are all singers. I am not, and I am not in any sense musically professional or educated. I wonder can you give me some reassurance please. If we accept that Gaga was below her beat last year, and the reasons for that would have been some combination of drinking, smoking, tiredness, illness, is it reasonable to hope that there is no permanent damage and that she can get back to her best form ?
