Pubs, restaurants, hotels and hairdressers can open from 4 July in England, when social distancing rules will be eased.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said people should remain 2m apart where possible but a "one metre plus" rule will be introduced.

Two households in England will also be able to meet indoors and stay overnight - with social distancing.

The prime minister warned that all steps were "reversible".

The meeting of households will not be exclusive, but unlike the bubble systempeople will have to maintain social distance - so family members who live apart could not hug.

Mr Johnson said people will be encouraged to use "mitigation" - such as face coverings and not sitting face-to-face - when within 2m of each other and "where it is possible to keep 2m apart, people should".

The prime minister said: "Our principle is to trust the British public to use their common sense in the full knowledge of the risks, remembering the more we open up, the more vigilant we need to be."

The venues listed as being able to reopen include:

Pubs, bars and restaurants - but only with a table service indoors, and owners will be asked to keep contact details of customers to help with contact tracing

Hotels, holiday apartments, campsites and caravan parks - but shared facilities must be cleaned properly

Theatres and music halls - but they will not be allowed to hold live performances

In other changes weddings will be allowed to have 30 attendees, and places of worship will be allowed to hold services.

What CANNOT open from 4 July?

The following places will remain closed by law:

Nightclubs and casinos

Bowling alleys and indoor skating rinks

Indoor play areas including soft-play

Spas

Nail bars and beauty salons

Massage, tattoo and piercing parlours

Indoor fitness and dance studios, and indoor gyms and sports venues/facilities

Swimming pools and water parks

Exhibition or conference centres - other than for those who work for that venue.

Mr Johnson said that the announcement meant "our long national hibernation is beginning to come to an end".

I fear it may be a tad too early. As soon as he said ‘stay alert’ everyone seemed to just forget the virus existed

Mister G

Everyone pretty much gave up and got tired of isolation after 3 months. It is what it is; all you can do is focus on measures you take to ensure your safety.

Me too. I think its too early in England, considering deaths are still in the hundreds, and there were a few areas that reported a spike in numbers again. I won't be too surprised if there is a jump in numbers in England. We'll see... 4th of July is in a week and a bit. I hope that it won't happen, but releasing lockdown when there's still a lot of concern in a few areas is increasing that chance of it happening again.

I think we are doing great in Scotland, but it is moving really slow. We have the lowest "r rate" in the UK, so potentially we could move a little faster... but I definitely understand why. Especially seeing reports of areas in Germany going back into lockdown.

I’m just sad that they aren’t opening gyms yet, I really wanted to start being healthy 😭

It's so easy to social distance in a gym too. Like, do they really think people gonna social distance in a pub? 🤦🏻‍♂️🤣

Surely we'll start seeing the effects of the protests soon if we haven't already? Weren't we anticipating a second wave around about now or next week?

Thanks! Appreciate the sentiment. 💕 But I wanna enhance regardless. It'll make me feel happier looking in the mirror...

Probably best not to anyways. I dunno what my aesthetic nurse was thinking, since she has baby cooking up in her stomach & is potentially vulnerable 🤦🏻‍♂️🤣 Would've been selfish of me to even go ahead with it, in hindsight x But she's also struggling for money probably and I feel bad 😫
