They manipulated it, and rigged it. Thats on that. And they probably bought way more than just 4 copies with one credit card lmao YouTube streams, Spotify streams... they were strong because he bought those views. You can't buy more than 4 copies with a card or Billboard throws out all the purchases for that card. OT: I just think it's funny that people are all about the charts until it doesn't go the way they want it to go. If Gaga had however many versions of a song she'd be smart. But now that a PDF File did it it's rigging and manipulation. Labels will cry foul but continue to support Billboard by reporting numbers to them. Because the chart is still relevant to them. So relevant to them in fact that they tie an artist's success and release schedule to their chart performance in their contracts.

So if a person bought 2 copies from iTunes, 2 from Amazon, and a further 2 on Google Play, Billboard would know it came from the same card? I doubt it very much. And your point about Gaga... if she done what he done, best believe she'd be dragged. As I said, multiple versions is all fine and dandy... but usually the alternative version is a gift for the fans WAY AFTER the orginal release of the OG version. Yes some merchants report information at that level. "Billboard and Nielsen Music/MRC Data conducts audits on all sales reported with access to purchase-level detail, and works with data partners to recognize excessive bulk purchases and remove those units from the final sales total". Gaga in no way would be dragged. If she had made Babylon a single before the album release and released the album version, the HL version, an extended version, and some sort of feature she would be praised across the board. Sure there would be people who would say things like "I don't know why she even bothered with anything other than HL cause the rest are garbage", but it wouldn't be for chart manipulation other than stans for BTS or something. Everyone plays the charts, or there wouldn't be bundling.
MonsterofFame 1,785
I don’t see how having the Alternative version is so bad. It’s less cheap than a bad remix with a guest verse, which Katy was the queen of back during Teenage Dream.
Chromatica 7,031
He’s not backtracking. He said that Daisies will be a massive pop record, not that it will do well on the charts.

Everyone plays the charts, or there wouldn't be bundling. Gaga would be dragged. Lets take Rain On Me, the current single. If she released an alternative version in the next couple of weeks, that would more likely be acceptable since its been ages from the orginal released date. However, if she released an alternative version, an extended version, a solo version, and the demo, ALL in the same week for tracking, and ALL those versions discounted, Gaga would be dragged left right and center. Alternative versions are usually a gift to fans much after the release of the orginal release date, not what 69 did. Yes, there is playing in charts... but not to this extent. 7 minutes ago, justhislife said: Yes some merchants report information at that level. COOOK 76,406
Witness was a nice take on experimentation and evolvement as an artist, but given the poor reception of the album, she and her management chose to focus on delivering more of what she was known for to counterbalance that "fumble" of an era with hopes of pushing her back to the top, to which sadly that pushed her right at the back and falling down the Ava Max rabbit hole while the rest of the music industry is already moving forward

NathanC 938
To be fair to both of them, the promotions were on point and the performances were performed. It’s not their fault daisies suck. I think they’re able to have a ROM moment with a good song.
Brecht 7
Did he forget that Katy used to discount the **** out of her singles and release remixes with other artists so the songs could go to number 1 too?
