She could be referring to 16th century BC, which was the peak of the Babylonian Empire

I'm something unless I know I can.. :neyde:

She's kinda saying she's something aslong as she doesn't believe in herself :ladyhaha:

Yes thank you, that's it, or "If I know I can, then I am nothing" :cryga:

Now please, native speakers of American dialects, enlighten us with your grammar wizardry :vegas:

“ When I was young, I felt immortal“ I think is the way he sings it . He’s trying to sound young and I just can’t stand Elton Period  thanks to him that song is my skip of the album

ELECTROHEART

"Freak out, freak out, freak out, freak out" :triggered:

"I walk the downtown, hear my sound" two times in the same verse, instead of "watch, watch me now, electric, devotion" like in the demo, choices :triggered:

"I'm I-E-I-E-I-E-I-E-I-E-I p-plastic
P-plastic do-o-o-o-oll
P-plastic, technologic"
and the "no, no, no" in the chorus sounds so cringey to me :madge:

And I love Babylon but when I heard the "With a pretty sixteenth century smile"  I was like WTF :emma:, but then I realized that she's referring to Mona Lisa :lolly:

"Every night, a million hearts are breaking, but at least I know tonight I'm not the only one"

I also always get confused in 1000 Doves
"I've been flying with some broken arms"

I always expect her to sing something like "with a broken heart", but "arms" just seems to come out of nowhere :laughga:

This has actually always been one of my favorite lyrics! She’s asking for someone to help lift her up, to help her fly again. You can’t fly with broken arms/ broken wings. She’s trying to fly but she can’t because her arms are broken. Flying with broken arms is her metaphor for living with pain, or trying to thrive although she’s suffering.

all the lyrics of babylon that aren't the chorus

I love Babylon more than anything, the way she delivers it and sings it saves the song but the lyrics still just....uh...

I’m reading through this thread and confirming that I don’t think that album has any bad lyrics. This album is her best yet in terms of lyrics, and that’s saying something because she’s always had amazing lyrics.

I actually really love when artists repeat the first line at the end of the verse or the song in general! I think it works really well. But that’s just me!

there some random phrases that I find very uninspired and too "obvious"? like:

"my name isn't alice..."

"i'm not your plastic doll"

"I'm still something if I don't got a man"

"i'd rather be dry, at least i'm alive"

"my biggest enemy is me"

"you're the worst thing and the best thing that's happened to me"

Also, "I'm not nothing unless I know I can" sounds like a filler rhyme more than anything. It paints the picture but doesn't actually make any sense lol.

But I thought maybe it was because English isn't my mother tongue

I made a post in the Chromatica Discussion thread asking people what that lyric meant because it didn't make sense to me. :rip:
