Shin Sekai Yori is one of my favorites.  It's pretty queer and is like a post apocalyptic school story with aesthetics from the past if that makes any sense?

Also Durarara!! is the anime that got me interested in anime.  Has a bit of celtic mythology in it

WAS I SUMMONED?

okays. I have like entire lists for peeps.

I highly recommend Ergo Proxy for your psychological dystopian anime fix. A lot of the "robots growing beyond programming" stuff. But also love, immigration, and also, a Jeopardy parody.

Following that is Psycho-Pass, which is Uber dystopia. Where you're mind scanned everyday. And you have psychological stats. If your psychological hue bypasses a certain threshold, you will be automatically incarcerated by the Sibil System. Akane Tsunomori is a newbie officer, and we follow her journey as her personal morals conflict with the system. And as she chases the criminal known as Makoshima, and his strangely clear hue.

For a comedy I suggest Princess Jellyfish and The Devil is a Part Timer. Princess Jellyfish follows the lives of four hikikkomori girls in an apartment, and the beautiful crossdressing man who suddenly drops into their lives to change everything. The Devil is a Part Timer is one of those "visitors from another realm anime", but we're following Satan as he tries to regain his magical power on Earth. A land barren of magic. However, because of monetary issues, he works at McDonalds.

Simoun is also high on my recommendations, though it's pretty weird. It's about the personal revelations of priestesses as they take part in a Holy War. However, it's also about gender and sexuality, as the anime takes place in a world where everyone is born a woman, and they choose their sexes as they come of age.

Baccano! is also one of my favs. Taking place in the... 1920s/30s, Baccano follows a large cast as they tumble into one another's plots about alchemy, love, inheritance, bootlegging, and immortality.

I'll have more laters.
