Plastic Doll and its potential to be a Lady Gaga classic

I'm in love with Plastic Doll

Plastic Doll as a song is a pure big pop classic which is on equal terms with Gaga classics like Paparazzi and Alejandro.

IEspecially Plastic Doll and Paparazzi have some things in common. Both have serious subjects which are wrapped up in a very picturesque way - Paparazzi / Plastic Doll.

The subject of Paparazzi is a tragic love story and dealing with fame. It has a kind of a bitter sweet sound and it's really a big pure pop track.

The subject of Plastic Doll is a android/ cyborg which learned to feel and knows what emotional hurt means. Btw we are not that far away from this reality. Of course every human can make the experience how it is when he starts again to feel and love after emotional hurt - like a android who is learning whats about human feelings and emotions.

Although both songs have serious topics they sound very warm and the bitter tear in the warm bubble makes them so special. To that Plastic Doll has a strong dance core in its character.

I love the instruments in both songs. This thread is more about Plastic Doll. Its a original music-tech piece for me which shows how warm and wide a song made with a computer can sound - especially because of the futuristic technical theme of the song its even more fascinating. A computer or even a android can create such feelings which we after all can feel.

I love also the mechanical silver effect on Gagas voice in the chorus, not only is the chorus catchy but because of the mechanical echo effect it sounds also very interesting and creative.

In general her voice on Plastic Doll is crisp and sharp. In the verse passages she reminds of 2009 unplugged Gaga.

The C-Part is very beautiful and pure theatrical 2009 Gaga.

These all elements wrapped up in a modern futuristic theme makes Plastic Doll for me to one of the best Lady Gaga songs at all and a highlight on Chromatica. Thank you for this warm but also interesting pop piece Gaga and producers.

I don't know, maybe? I mean if they film a music video it could have a really interesting concept and storyline. :enigma:

I love how so many of these songs scream The Fame both in terms of subject matter like Plastic Doll but also her return to techno and electronic “weirdness”. It all just feels so raw and genuine. I could’ve seen PD been a much larger hit had it been the lead.

What's actually wrong with you?

Very nice analysis OP, Plastic Doll is definitely one of my favorites, however i think the difference is that it's not innovative in the way classics like paparazzi, poker faceor bad romance were. It's kind of a cliche metaphore that has been done before, unlike the others. And overall seeing the reactions no one was really excited about the song so it doesnt feel like it would smash.

chaeri pls

That is so true and beautiful said 💗 Plastic Doll is like from The Fame only wrapped up in giantic urbanic generator. Electronic weirdness like from a futuristic punk who loves The Fame and sended Plastic Doll with a timemachine to us.

Gracious Gaga

I think the song is a bit too cookie cutter for me

i wish it was edgier all around, in terms of lyrics and production.

Plastic Doll is definitely ClassicGa but I don’t think people will treat it like a classic.
