While Chromatica is certainly not as crazy or experimental as ARTPOP, I feel the Chromatica album does have that distinct Lady Gaga electronica sound and I feel The album does have moments that ARTPOP tried to do but perhaps missed the mark. For one, both albums are upbeat while they do tackle dark themes and both albums (like Swine, Fun Tonight etc). Both albums do try to create a world created by Gaga, but ARTPOP missed the mark due to its incoherence and sometimes lack of structure, whereas Chromatica is smooth, coherent and has a constant flow that really allows you to enter Gaga's world. I also feel both albums do play with the idea of freedom and expression, particularity, in my opinion, the title track ARTPOP (ARTPOP could mean anything) and Enigma (we could be anything we want) and the albums also go into the ideas of pain, dealing with pain and over coming pain through music. I also feel with the rollout, had ARTPOP been given a chance, we would have truly seen ARTPOP as a world on its own, very similar to what Chromatica is now. So while ARTPOP and Chromatica are two truly different albums, I do believe with ARTPOP's up and downs, it allowed Chromatica to truly shine, it allowed Gaga to show us her world and vision and ARTPOP in the end gave Chromatica a platform to be the album ARTPOP should have been.
