She has that unapologetic personality that is required to be a big name. Besides her, maybe Rina Sawayama. Rihanna and Bey have been MIA for nearly 5 years, apart from inconsequential features. Taylor and Gaga and possibly Adele are all there is right now. But Taylor’s last era (Lover) was an underperformance compared to the one before that (reputation), which was an underperformance compared to the one before that. And it’s pretty clear that Adele’s upcoming album won’t be as big as 21 in 2011 or 25 in 2015. Ariana was the last main pop gurl, girlies. But it feels like the entire era is coming to a close, with the new generation not nearly as charismatic or motivated as the 2008-2012 gurls. 2013 was the beginning of the end with the rise of whisper pop indie girls and the hip hop revival with 2015 arguably the last year year of multiple big MPG releases (1989 and Adele’s 25).
