If Joanne was released now it would be critically acclaimed

Fans would be FURIOUS if she released Joanne in 2020. I think 2016 was the perfect time to release it. Chromatica screams 2020 pop music

Nah...i don't see Joanne as a political album...just an awkward and forced attempt at country pop

It is Grammy-award winning so what other type of acclaim do we need :ally:

I think that Joanne was a necessary stepping stone at the time so she could eventually serve up songs like Shallow, ITA, and ARUTW. It would feel too forced and out of place if released in 2020.

Joanne happened exactly when/how it needed to. It never really got as much crap from critics as it did from people around here who were mad because they couldn’t go out clubbing to it 🙄.

ARTPOP is the one that makes me wonder how it would have done at a different time.

Joanne at least came after C2C and all her 2015 performances, so she wasn’t really in a bad place.

ARTPOP was doomed as it was. The backlash from the BTW era was the only thing leading up to that one.

I’m gonna say no. Joanne, regardless of some opinions, was crucial for her “rebranding” after ARTPOP. It set the stage for ASIB. I don’t think Chromatica would have done well in 2016 either. “Gaga’s return to the fan floor after 7 years” was a major promotional strategy. She played everything perfectly.

After her success with A Star Is Born, people definitely would’ve appreciated it a lot more than they did during 2016. It would’ve made a hell of a lot more sense after ASIB than it did with ARTPOP.

Judas Society

I still think Diamond Heart would have been a great single.

Except when she won a Grammy for the piano version, yeah we talk about it.

I'm like some kind of supernova
