Let's also note this amazing comment by historian Leon Au () spilling facts :

"Historic fact: this song was written by the great Joan of Arc during her imprisonment by the English. As Joan was illiterate, the beautiful melody and the original French lyrics was actually transcript by the prison guards as they were haunted by the beautiful melody of the song. After her execution, the song found its way back to France, it became one of the most popular folk songs in Norman.

After the horrible plague, the song was largely forgotten, until Shakespeare found the original sheets of musics during one time travelling in France. He decided rewrote the lyrics in English, and premiered it during the play of his now famous comedy “A midsummer Night’s dream”. The song resurged in its popularity, and the French court rediscovered this long lost piece of art.

According to the diaries of the servants of Louis XIV, the sun king himself had to listen a certain set of playlist during his dinner time, and this song was amongst the most often played. After the French Revolution, before the execution of Marie Antoinette, the Queen pled to listen to the song one more time before getting on the guillotine.

The song slowly faded after the revolution, but was still a common tune during the industrial revolution in London. Even Queen Victoria, were found to have quoted the lyrics of the song in her many many love letters to Prince Albert. However, after entering the 20th century, the song was slowly forgotten by the public since with the popularity of radio, new music were spreading quickly while old traditional ones are mostly forgotten.

However, in an unexpected turn of events, Stefani Germanotta, professional known as Lady Gaga, rediscovered this song during her studies in the NYU, in the old archives of the library, and proceed to cover the song in her album the fame monster. The song quickly regained its prevalence again and was at one time the most viewed video on a digital platform named YouTube. In the following decades, people largely forgot the story of the origin of the song, until a medieval version of the song resurfaced on the internet."
