BruceWayneOnMe 652
I posted a thread yesterday which many members took as a cheap shot at Joanne. But it's not. The crazy levels of genre switches that gaga does may prove to you that she is the most versatile mainstream singer out there (which she is) and stan her even harder. But think of an average listener on Spotify. Follow on spotify- play her on shuffle- 911-Edge of Glory- Swine-Come to Mama-Anything Goes- Unfollow. I kid you not hearing Sinner's Prayer after a couple of Bops from Chromatica wouldn't let me appreciate the former. It only wants me to not play her from her artist page. Which explains her low number of Spotify followers. Again I am not shading Joanne or ARTPOP in particular. Hey Girl, DIC, DWUW, Applause are some of her best songs. And I am sure within a few months the love for Chromatica will wane and people will start to appreciate her earlier efforts too. But in your opinion is it better to have all songs deliver the expectations that people have of you, done best by Billy, Lana, Ariana etc. Or have this crazy variety in your discography? FFXIV WhiteMage 5,926
I think it will be good in the long run. She will definitely receive critical acclaims when people look back at her discography. Being able to deliver phenomenal music in wide variety of genres will placate her name on the pedestal with many other musical legends. This also puts her on a different league than her peers (Katy, Kesha, Adele). Maybe at the moment the mentioned above artists are more popular but can they re-brand themselves in case the time calls for it? I can see Ariana being able to pull it off (she has the vocals) but how about the rest? The fact that Gaga was able to make buzz 11years into her career already proves that her strategy is effective. And she's an Oscar-nominated actress
Doot 2
People who have variety, at least from what I've seen, have longer careers. They may disappoint some fans each time they shift genre influences, but they continue to reach different audiences each time. And low-key if someone was shuffling through her discography and heard Sinners Prayer and turned it off... can't blame em
Aglaya 8,393
True. I thought about this same thing yesterday when I was listening to This Is Lady Gaga playlist on spotify and after Aura, Anything Goes started playing I guess it depends on your mood. I dont mind listening to some random C2C track and then boping to 911, but I get people and the GP don’t usually like that. I don’t think many people are concerned about this tho. Once you get Gaga’s variety of music, you just play the albums that you like from her. I don’t think this is a huge problem in her career, but it would be nice from her to create playlists with her music based on different feelings or music genres, so people could play her songs in a more cohesive way. could mean anything
Judas Society 3,584
I get your point. But I guess this usually happens for those who only likes one particular genre. I love all sorts of genre and my own personal playlist have the softest, most chilled songs from the 50s doo wops to the harsh sounds of 00s Linkin Park. Sure, people who only listen to one genre tend to stream more from a particular album. But Gaga's songs could be on any person's albums based on their preferred genre. The thing about Gaga is that her music has never been one that is easy to listen to. Probably the easiest to bop to is TF. Even from TFM, people only liked Telephone of BR. How many people you know who are not fans are listening to DITD? Plus, these songs were popular with the generation who doesn't usually stream. Her current fans are mostly monsters who has bought her songs in the first place. Her debut sales are consistent to her previous sales. You can argue Covid & BLM put a dampen to her sales but if GP wanted to buy songs, they can buy it from iTunes but it won't contribute very much to album ranking. Look at ASIB. Shallow is a monster of a song and outsold most of Gaga's own songs, but it didn't contribute too much to the album at all. So when you say "Joanne is Joanne" after "Chromatica is perfect", you're really implying that Joanne is a bad album, not about Gaga's streaming power. Plus, you can't compare those 2 since they're both very different genre. So you're really shading Joanne whether you know it or not.

Dr Fudge 8,635
I’ve thought about this before- I think her dedicated fans don’t mind. Personally, I’ve found myself listening to the This is Lady Gaga playlist on Spotify and absolutely jamming out to C2C deep cuts, even as someone who doesn’t usually listen to jazz. For fans of her hits, I think she has a large enough catalog that anybody who wants to listen to just popga can easily skip songs. I don’t think it hurts her. Consider the fact that many artists have Christmas albums that probably get thrown into their “This is ____” playlists too. Been a cuff touple, a puff bupple, a tough couple of years. Bling 31,385
It just goes to show how talented and multifaceted Gaga is. She is an album artist and is not defined by a genre, sound, or stereotype
