ARTGOD 3,266 Posted June 8, 2020 Share Posted June 8, 2020 I’m not only taking into consideration their quality as songs, but how well they work as openers to their respective albums. 1- Aura: We all know it’s an amazing song and an absolute banger, but it’s also a perfect introduction to the world of ARTPOP. Who is the girl behind the Aura? You’ll have to listen to the rest of the album henny. 2- Marry The Night: A discography highlight and a pretty good summary of the overall theme of the album. It also feels like an opener in the way it progresses musically. 3- Bad Romance: It’s a good opener in the sense that it’s a great banger to start an album with, and it’s of course one of her best songs. The way the album is set up doesn’t lend itself to having an all encompassing album opener though. 4- Diamond Heart: Great way to let the listener know what kind of sound they’re getting, and it also kinda tackles the overall theme of the record. 5- Alice: Good song, and lyrically it’s a really good introduction to what the album will be about, however it feels kinda weak when you look at her other openers. 6- Just Dance: It’s a good song and the opening synth is iconic, however it doesn’t really mean much in the context of the album, it doesn’t even tackle the theme of fame, it feels like it’s the opener just because it was the lead single tbh. Alice 7/10 --> I love the chorus but the production on the verses is a bit basic. I'd have loved something more experimental / crazy for an opener. 06. Marry the Night 7/10 --> I feel like this song is a good ending track but not a good opener. For some reason, I feel like "Born This Way", "Government Hooker" or "The Edge Of Glory" could have been better opener. As songs : 01. Bad Romance 11/10 02. Aura 10/10 03. Marry the Night 10/10 04. I have always disliked BTW's tracklisting, I even find Highway Unicorn to be a better opener than MTN given the BTWBT. Diamond Heart is her best opener by far until Alice, the same way Joanne has the best tracklist in terms of flow, theme, sound etc Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
