How were people so thirsty for music when she had just dropped a whole soundtrack 2 months earlier? She would not have been able to do promo for it because of ASIB. Maybe a one-off single would have worked. But even then it would have disrupted ASIB promo. Even at a different time, Enigma pushes on the boundaries of what the album as a whole sounds like and wouldn't have been a good lead single because of that.

Yeah you're right about ASIB - and Shallow was still enjoying the hype during that time. Idk about people but I think at least the fans were secretly expecting a new track or two so I guess it would've been quite the treat

Maybe it doesn't in terms of cohesion but in terms of good songs there are several that i don't enjoy as much as the others.

Enigma def has grown on me but still has a long way to go.

This album doesn't have bad songs, just songs that aren't someone's personal taste. Each song is incredibly well done, though.

It's a bad song. I had such high hopes but I'm happy it was reduced to filler album track instead of lead single like it probably was meant to be.

So because you don’t like a song it’s a “filler” track? A filler track is a song put on the album to fill up space. Every song on this album was intentionally put there by Gaga & placed in order to complete the story. That by definition means it’s not a “filler” track.

I feel that, I can’t really picture the opening verse playing on the radio but the chorus I can def picture.

I’m not sure but when casual fans/general public people listen to the full album for the first time they seem relieved when Enigma kicks in after the 911-Plastic Doll-Sour Candy trinity :billie:

LITERALLY THOUGH 😂 like it’s not that the songs leading up to it are bad in any way, I’ve just noticed GP friends of mine get super into Enigma cause it’s more of a broader sound rather than the strictly house/EDM/pop like 911, Plastic Doll & Sour Candy.

that was kinda how i felt as well. up until Enigma there hadnt been a song that floored me upon first listen (except for maybe Alice cos it's such a great opener) and as soon as I heard the first two lines from Enigma I got up and just knew it was THE ONE (...until Sine From Above came)

I don't understand what "story" is being told though. There are many themes in the album and it def takes you on a sonic journey but there is not really a story being told.  it explores many different topics and that is awesome.

I can say I don't like a song and you can say you like it and that doesn't mean anything to either of us or at least it shouldn't.

I don't know about lead single but this is one of my favs in the album. It really strikes deep for me as a gamer. Life online is an enigma indeed.

I imagine it more of a promo single for the enigma show that actually compreends both pop and jazz and piano loool.

And it could feature in a movie settled in vegas with promo for the chamgne company she has.

Imagine a 007 movie with gaga cameo and a robbery scene where the waiter is pouring the champgne, close up bottke trademark. And she hits chorus.

Ajhhhhh😅.

Even cars or some telephone promo.

I’m perfectly fine with you not liking the song. What I take issue with is when someone labels a song a “filler” simply because they don’t like it. Unless you’re in the room while Gaga is deciding which songs go on the album you can’t possibly know if it’s a filler. Not to mention, Gaga’s albums are known to be high concept with a story that’s told through the music. Specifically on Chromatica because it has transitions from one section to another. I take the story for that specific section as Sour Candy being the flirtation stage of romance, Enigma being the part where you’re falling in love & Replay being when you discover the monsters the person you love has & how it affects you. That’s just how I personally interpreted them thematically but as stand alone pieces I interpret them differently.

honey. what are you even saying? i appreciate how much you are trying to digest the music but like... let's say there is a full story told on chromatica (which there isn't IMO) maybe I don't like the way she told the story enigma was meant to tell. and maybe i think it's filler cuz i think a better song could have been written to display that emotion.

i don't feel this way exactly but like... it's an album and bad songs are filler. if your definition of filler was the case then there automatically isn't any filler on any album ever made because the artist chose what would go on the album.
