Really when was the last time I posted about Bernie. I could though. Most of his campaign staff are at war with each other. But at this point who cares. 

So you read one article and were ready to pick up your pitch fork and torch against Biden, rather than do some research. Sounds like what a Trump supporter would do.

All it took was one Google search to find out Biden and Bernie's views on defunding the police were exactly the same.

The tripling of budget occurred within a matter of a few years under Reagan.  All it did was give more incentive to useless arrests and incarceration. The US prison population went from 400,000 in 1970 to 2.5M in 2014. One of the biggest spikes also occurred under Obama - something the neoliberals aren't willing to talk about. Almost 50% of these are drug offenses - mostly possession.

Meanwhile, the US population went from 203M in 1970 to 318M in 2014.  A 56% increase in the GP compared to a 525% increase in the prison population.

I think instead of defunding they need to reroute funds to training and stop funding militarization and high capacity prisons.

"But a campaign spokesman, Andrew Bates, said flatly that Mr. Biden was opposed to cutting police funding and believed more spending was necessary to help improve law enforcement and community policing."

Don't misrepresent his views. He is explicitly against rerouting funds to training and stopping militarization.

And this has nothing to do with Mitch stacking of conservative judges. Or the increase in private prisons that don't have anything to with the fed govt.

Since 2000, the number of people in private prisons has increased 39.3%, compared to an overall rise in the prison population of 7.8%. In six states the private prison population has more than doubled during this time period: Arizona (479%), Indiana (310%), Ohio (277%), Florida (199%), Tennessee (117%), and Georgia (110%).

Guess which one of those states is liberal.

Also Obama tried to phase out private prisons  but guess who reversed it.

From his speech a few days ago:

He called for banning chokeholds by police, creating a national police oversight commission, stopping "transferring weapons of war" to police forces, improving oversight and accountability, and creating a model use of force standard.

Biden added that every police department in the country could take steps now to conduct a comprehensive review of their hiring, training, and de-escalation practices.

"Most cops meet the highest standards of their profession," Biden said. "All the more reason that bad cops should be dealt with severely and swiftly. We all need to take a hard look at the culture that allows for these senseless tragedies to keep happening."
