It's like John Oliver said: Biden saying that a cop should shoot the leg instead of the heart is exactly the same as saying Americans should vote for Biden instead of Trump. People really think this movement means deleting the police force and letting crime run rampant, when it’s not. “Defund the police” is a messy slogan that makes some people not even wanna look more into it, however it is quite clickbaity and may serve good promo for the idea.
