Chicago alone During other administrations  had 244 and 246 murders a year ... Baltimore about the same. You cant defund the police you need to hire better qualified police pay them more and not hire college sport rejects who are angry at everyone in my opinion.  But im just one person with an unpopular opinion.

I also agree with more emphasis on rehabilitation rather than just being punished forever for justice. I never got the point of locking ppl in a room just sitting there. We been doing that for thousands of years ud think by now we'd have a better system

But progressives sometimes are also the most agressive with comments like "lock him up", "rot for life in jail"

For example such comments often come up with pedophile issues. I think those people need mental help as much as punishment.

Or manslaughter (murder but by accident).

Unless someone is a homicidal maniak or some crazy phychopatic sereal killer I think ppl deserve a second chance but not many ppl seem to believe in that anymore

And internet cancel culture is not helping that mentality. Ppl literally get dragged and their apologies not accepted because of videos that surface of something from 20 years ago :rip:

I agree with your punishment for criminals point. Locking up for life should be the very last resort. People in America have always been this "eye for eye", it's not new. Most of the legislation thats led to this occurred in the past few decades.

I think it's unfair to compare it to cancel culture. There are two reasons. 1. Social defamation isn't the same as literally being locked up and having no rights 2. What makes people so angry is they want consequences in the first place. If people faced consequences for poor behavior rather than just getting away with it until someone brings it up, then it's easier to support forgiveness.

Yes but if you see their pay is already pretty good. Their funding has tripled in a few decades and they didn't do anything but mass incarceration out of it.

It's a structure that needs to be reformed heavily or rebuilt and cuts in funding can be part of it. They do not need to police poc communities more heavily for example.

Does the budget tripping factor in inflation and population growth?

Just asking cuz nominal numbers can be misleading

This is a very ignorant post.  I tried looking up community security and all I got was a one paragraph wikipedia page.

Edit: well okay I found more resources.  My google is effed up.  Still not for it 100%.

So we should stay with a corrupted system just because?

The points on community security and research from sociologists are clear.

When something happens to you, community specialist will attend you. It doesn't mean anyone will be free after commiting a crime.

The judicial system isn't being defunded, it's the police that is. Instead of police you'll have people that can actually solve a problem and know how to treat it.

"What about ppl robbing banks?" What with it? Ppl stopped robbing banks which's a very low rate (mostly everywhere) bc of the existence of the police? What about rape? Ask a victim of rape if they'd would report it to the police if it happens again.

Tell to the victims of the 1700 rape kits that were not analyzed in Minneapolis.

The police system has failed everywhere. Security within the communities could be the answer, I'm not saying it's, but I'd rather try a sociological approach than a repressive one that we know that had failed.

And while at it, defund prisons and the ICE. You won't change society if you don't change its structure.

Would this even be up to him anyway?

If the US is anything like Canada, very little law enforcement has anything to do with Federal Government unless it's something Federal like FBI :enigma:

Lower levels of Government mostly manage the police

I think defund police is to have the Fed govt stop giving money to local law enforcement for militarization like equipment. Some police departs even have tanks.

I don't even think most GGD people know this. They assume police departments will close if they are "defunded" by the fed govt. :ladyhaha:

He is talking about taking that money and using it to retrain and do an overhaul of the police departments nation wide.

Even Bernie Sanders doesn't want to defund all police.

This whole thread is delusional. You cannot defund the police. It simply will not happen. We can invest in minority communities and actually cause real change, but we still need someone to enforce the law.

There needs to be major police reform and laws created that punish police brutality and systemic racism.

seriously y’all are pushing me to the right :saladga:

You do realize this isn’t negative or positive, right? This is a statement made by his campaign.

Whether it’s positive or negative is up to the perception of the reader.

Perhaps you think it’s negative and you’re upset others would think it too but you want to protect Biden :billie:

As much as we want radical things like that to happen, it’s not happening soon. It might be a slow process. I’m not American, but if you won’t vote for Biden, isn’t that giving Trump another term? Isn’t Trump worse? I don’t mean that Biden is a good guy, but Trump is infinitely worse right?

Sad to see the radical left take over the BLM platform. Sanders lost, get over it.

Except you clearly posted an article that leaves out most of his stance which is to defund police department that don't meet standards.

"I support conditioning federal aid to police based on whether or not they meet certain basic standards of decency and honorableness. And, in fact, are able to demonstrate they can protect the community and everybody in the community." Biden

Which has EXACTLY the same as Senate Sanders stance on defunding the police.

You are delusional and right now and you are a liar.

Well....

He’s a Great Value Republican™️. Did we expect anything else tbh?

The left are losing this argument. People really think this movement means deleting the police force and letting crime run rampant, when it’s not. “Defund the police” is a messy slogan that makes some people not even wanna look more into it, however it is quite clickbaity and may serve good promo for the idea.

Please see my second post’s second video for a just-the-facts definition of defunding the police means 💕💕

You really think Joe Biden’s winning strategy is to openly say he’s going to defund the police — one of his largest union supporters — while trump/the GOP are positioning themselves as rule of law proponents in this time of civil unrest?

It’s obviously not. And it’s not like it matters. He couldn’t do it even if he wanted to.

I’m all for defunding the police anyways. But let’s not pretend like this comment is changing anyone’s mind about Joe.

I actually posted this article because it was the first I saw on my feed.

Is the NYT anti-Biden now?

Calling me a delusional and a liar for posting something from the Biden campaign :rip:

A new low, but not surprised.

Biden Bros are so fragile :billie:
