She made a very good point about working hard and not doing it for the awards and recognition. Nope, I watched it all and didn't like how she explicitly says that losing 46 grammy nominations was "rejection", and that is how she "knows rejection". Being nominated alone is an ESTEEMED HONOR that few artists get, and she's directly comparing actual rejection to losing grammy awards she was nominated for. I don't think that's a "good point" at all, I think she sounds highly pretentious here. It's a weird flex to compare only winning 24/70 grammy noms to "knowing rejection".... Beyoncé can come off as pretentious just like Gaga did back in the day but the difference is that Beyoncé is such a bad speaker so what she says can be misunderstood. ‘If religion be the cause of disunity, then irreligion is surely to be preferred.’ ‘Abdu’l-Bahá

I've watched the whole thing live as well and it was the only part that didn't set well with me either. She can talk about this, of course, has done it before, in an interview where she said "you can work so hard, and still lose!" and in that context it worked, but here it was kinda irky, to say "not winning a Grammy you're nominated for" is "rejection". I misunderstood nothing, she literally says her losing 46 grammys is why she “knows rejection”. That is a really privileged POV of rejection to me, is all I’m saying. Not trying to “tear down black woman”, jeez.

Being nominated for a Grammy is not an ESTEEMED HONOR, especially when artists like Macklemore and Taylor Swift win over Kendrick Lamar She's saying the exact opposite of what you're trying to say. She's saying that if you do it for the accolades you'll never find the strengh to keep going because rejection is a part of it.

If this thread was about Katy Perry or Justin Timberlake or Ed Sheeran, would you jump straight into defensive mode and say I'm tearing down 'white people'? If the answer is no, then what made you think this was about race? Maybe it's not that complicated as you thought?
