It's too early to say, but ROM stays slaying and in the public consciousness, I see it snatching a ROTY nomination. And we can't count out Chromatica for the AOTY race, the academy has lately been very big on Gaga (now that she's considered a legacy act) and they would probably want to make up for the fact that she has been denied the top prize three times and she was snubbed in the category just last year, when they didn't nominate the ASIB soundtrack.

Why is Acclaimatica not going for AOTY?

These are just the records I think have a real chance of winning, not necessarily just getting a nomination.

There is no chance in hell Stupid Love will get a nom :ladyhaha: The Weeknd will win everything. Unless Adele comes with a really good song.

You think HB has a better chance of winning than Chromatica?!? :poot:

Where is Gaga? She is def getting some noms

Do you mean in the general field? I didn’t put her on there because there’s not a chance in hell she’s gonna win AOTY, SOTY, or ROTY. Her best bets are in the pop categories.

I think since the Grammys are ultimately about politics (lol) Gaga actually has a big chance of winning one of the top categories, her standing (from her activism lately, her COVID response, etc) is very high. Somehow our girl has become one of the most uncontroversial celebrities out there.

Never underestimate Lady Gaga. :)

These are very pop and hip hop heavy predictions. Grammys still favor rock and country and instrument based recordings over electronic production. Fiona Apple Fetch the Bolt Cutters for sure gets in Album of the Year. And likely others in that tradition will too. I do agree with the three Gaga noms. Plus she has a shot in Video Short Form for ROM and maybe a shot at Album and Record. Grammys are selected by a small commitee in general field categories. So more than any others they favor people who are on good terms with the Academy.

jacs vs looser

I don't see Everything I wanted being nominated for either ROTY or SOTY, let alone wining. And I can definitely see Chromatica getting an AOTY nod, and depending on how Rain on me does in the next following weeks it might just get a ROTY nod as well.

I think Billie can win because the Grammys love her more than the people who I consider to be her biggest competition.
Gaga has never won in the general field and I don’t think Stupid Love or ROM will be her first records to do so. SL just isn’t a strong enough song imo and the Grammys don’t like Ariana that much. I think Chromatica can get a nomination for AOTY. However, to win I think it would have to be a huge commercial success. Like, one of the top 3 best selling albums of the year kind of success. That’s the only way I think the Grammys would vote for it to win.

Yeah, the grammys love Billie but wasn't EIW kind of a non-event? Specially for those categories, (even more so compared to her other songs). For that reason I don't see it as a contender for ROTY or SOTY, maybe in the smaller categories.

The reason I think AOTY is a good posibility is because the album has gathered mostly possitive reviews from critics. I don't think commercial success is particularly important for the AOTY category, I mean it does play a part, but ... didn't Beck's album win AOTY with relatively little sales?

Gaga better submit Chromatica I for some of the more obscure classical arrangement Grammys!

Lol as if the academy gave a fvck what the critics say. Remember when Bruno Mars won AOTY with an album with Metacritic score of 70? Or when they nominated  that Post Malone album that has a score of 51?

This part. But at the same time....they do care. It's all kinda f*cked and the Grammys unfortunately don't really mean toooo much and are rigged. The fact that a lot of y'all don't even know who Fiona Apple is makes her more likely to snatch ROTY from a massively successful and popular album like FN. The people and music that DESEVRES to win really often don't unfortunately. Grammys loves to throw in music that no one really cared about on a large scale and give them the Grammy.

Not that often, though. Beck winning AOTY or Esperanza Spalding winning BNA are big outliers in the general field categories. If anything, they tend to favour indie rock/folk acts like Arcade Fire or Bon Iver, but I wouldn't say either of them are music that no one cares about, it's just not pop.

Of course not, but I really doubt they'd nominate Fiona Apple's Fetch the Bolt Cutters (even though it is truly a great record), regardless of how well received it was by critics. It just hasn't had that big an impact, and the Grammys know they are losing relevance, I don't think they would nominate a virtually unknown record by an artist whose last top 40 hit was in 1997. As unfair as that is.
