WHY IS IT SO HARD TO JUST SAY:

I understand that these figures are celebrated, despite their wrongdoings.
I understand that celebratory statues gloss over the wrongdoings of these figures.
I understand that their celebrations are upsetting to many people.
I understand the destruction of these statues in protest.

There's a difference between being "pro-poc/black" and being actively anti-racist. Its not good enough to be or to say "I'm not racist" or "I've always been pro-POC".

Also, why "pro-POC"? Like, that statement feels like its dehumanising POC and black people.

I am actively anti-racist. I will stand up for moments of racism. Just because I don't protest doesn't mean I don't care. There's multiple ways to anti-racist. There's also multiple reasons why someone doesn't protest and for me, it's nothing to do with not caring.

And that is seriously the weirdest sentence ever. I'm lost for words. "POC" is the phrase that we're told to use. Using this phrase was my way of embodying people of all races. I didn't want to just say pro-black because that suggests I only care about blacks when there's similar injustices against other races. You are seriously the first person to call what I did de-humanising and that right there shows how much people here are twisting what I say to make me look bad.

What on Earth are you going on about? You always blabber on about this trivial Justin Bieber anecdote that I dont even remember until you bring it up. My problems with you lay in how you carry yourself on this forum and your problematic views on many issues.

You randomly dismissed my opinion on a conversation because I’m gay and because you’re a woman. Yes you apologised but that’s still how your brain works. I’ve literally never used an anti-feminist rhetoric in any discussion with you because that’s not where my morals lie, but somehow you seem to use your feminism as a shield regardless.

You just told that user not to poke his nose into our situation, but only after writing a lengthy paragraph about it that nobody asked for (and they probably don’t care about, either). Seriously, the world does not revolve around you and your feelings. That’s why I said you should probably get out there and try to see it more sometime 🙄 My morals? Don’t make me laugh. I have apologised for certain things when they have unintentionally caused offence - stop lying.

Also in regards to your education on race: I know that you’re not because of how you speak about it. That’s literally it. If you knew more then you’d have more nuance and substance to offer but your points are often very shallow. Yes people go on about how long your posts are but it doesn’t mean you say much. Your stance on you not being a racist is essentially down to “but I have a black friend” or “I like black music” and you still maintain that’s a valid point. The global discourse about race has moved far beyond those surface level statements. Keep up.

The reason why you don't remember the anecdote is because, from what I've seen with how you react to other members here, I'm just one of a long line of people who you've laughed at and bullied. Naturally, you can't remember every mean thing you've ever said to someone when you use mean comments like currency. I remember it because it was the first thing you ever said to me and it was hostile and rude. I remember people who are hostile and rude. And my problems with you are for the same reasons.

I didn't dismiss your comment because you were gay. I've repeatedly said that I was racking my brains for reasons why you disliked me for no good reason and when I've exhausted that, I use gender discrimination as the very last resort. But what else did I have? But this was back when I was first getting to know you. 5 years later, I've seen how horrible you are to just about anyone who doesn't agree with you. It's your way or the high way and you get a kick out of bringing people down. I've never used anti-black rhetoric either but that hasn't stopped you calling me a racist. So, why is it ok for you to say you're not sexist by saying you've never used anti-female rhetoric? If a woman says you're being sexist towards her, aren't you always told to listen and don't defend yourself? If others use their marginalised status as a shield, why can't I?

I had to write a lengthy post to inform him of the situation that he was saying slanderous things about. The wolrd doesn't revolve and your feelings either, yet you repeatedly bring up a comment that I apologised for 5 years ago and use it as ammo to still hate me all this time later. What a hypocrite you are. You've never apologised to me for all the mean things you've ever said to me, stuff that has made me cry. Don't gaslight me and say I'm lying.

You have no proof of the books I've read. My points aren't shallow, you just don't agree with them. I usually bring up stuff no one else is, so I don't know how that can possibly be shallow. By the way, I never said I had a black friend because the truth is, I don't have any. Not because I don't want any but no black people have ever entered my life seeing how they're less than 1% of the Scottish population (apart from the one guy I asked out who was married and who is now an ex-colleague anyway so it's awkward in more ways than one to remain friends anyway). I only make these "surface level" statements because they're all I have. You can't see through a computer screen how non-racist I am. Even if I was at a protest, you wouldn't know as I don't take photos nor do I use social media. So, tell me, how can be anti-racist in a way you can see? I'll wait.

There is nothing 'natural' about instantly jumping to the conclusion that he hates you because he's a gay man and you're a woman lol

You just talked about Justin Bieber, and someone disagreed with you and now suddenly, the member who's gay and it's apparently important for you, is a sexist who hates women and your experience as a woman, meaning criticizing Justin Bieber, was denied and silenced. I have to laugh.

By the way, this has happened to me too. I remember critizing American food, and someone then mentioned me months later making fun of it, which I found funny. It's very very very harmless, I don't understand how it got you all wired up and made you think in your head that because the member is gay he hates women and hates you. Do you realize how crazy that sounds lol

You're right I haven't seen private messages nor is it my business, but something tells me it wouldn't change my opinion. I've seen a lot of your posts and it's not the first time that I always found something weird about what you say. I think it's sad though that you can't look inward and analyse your own words and see what couldve been weird. But none of my business, somehow you are always the victim in the end

Would you think it natural for a black person to jump to the conclusion that a white person hates them if they were hating on them for no reason? Or is race is the only time it's ok to jump to conclusions?

It wasn't just because of Justin, it was how he made a point of hating every little thing I said after that and this was long before race became an issue. I had to wonder if there was a more discriminatory reason why he hated me so much.

Not everyone finds being made fun of to be funny. I've been bullied a lot, I don't stand for it these days. The only way you can halt bullying is by stopping them in their tracks. Harry couldn't believe it that I stood up to him but it didn't make him stop, it made him worse. I had to wonder if there was a bigger reason why he wasn't letting this irrational hatred of me go. But of course, go in for the crazy hysterical woman stereotype, which you probably didn't even realise you made. We have another gaslighter in our midst.

I have no doubt it wouldn't change your opinion as you're biased against me. You're another Harry. For the record, I've tried to make it up to him many times, try to find stuff we have in common, talk about our songwriting (by the way, @Harry I reviewed your Lana album some years ago that you made for that songwriting contest, it was great! You may be a bad person but you write good songs!). He's not interested in getting to know me as then he might realise that he has me all wrong. You could look inward and analyse your own views. If you're getting someone this fired up, maybe you could examine your social skills? I'm not playing the victim, I AM the victim here. It's ok to be vocal about mistreatment.

Thank you for admitting openly that you used my sexuality to put me down in a moment of anger.

Just to add; this isn't the only time she's espoused homophobic vitriol on this site. Back when the (ultimately false) James Charles scandal was the talk of the internet, she used the opportunity to write a lengthy essay (of course) and spread awful stereotypes about how "preying" on and harassing straight men was a widespread, normal act that gay men engaged in, that James Charles' alleged behavior (tricking, gaslighting, and behaving predatory towards a straight guy) were supposedly indicative of something that we normally engage in, and that she felt like she needed to speak up on behalf of straight people, as if we were some sort of oppressive force that needed to be taken down a peg in the name of "equality."

When I called her out on it, she did what she's doing now; refusing to acknowledge her own shortcomings, claiming that she has gay friends and therefore couldn't be homophobic, playing the victim and insinuating that the person who chose to engage with her was some sort of bully for attempting to point out why what she'd said was incorrect and harmful. And when we all later found out that the accusations against Charles were false, she was nowhere to be found.

Just felt like I needed to make it clear that the problem with the user extends to a whole host of issues.

After all, if removing statues won't erase racism, adding more statues of figures that represent hate and oppression won't add more racism, right?

No ones even talking about adding more statues, especially of racist figures. Clearly no one would want a Hitler statue put up... like what even :triggered:

That is what I believe. Everyone here is trying to say I think the opposite just because, despite believing all this, I don't think the public should tear them down. I want it to be down by the relevant authorities to ensure public safety and not to support vandalism and disorder. Why is it, if something is not put down exactly the way someone on GGD wants it, a firestorm of accusations is aimed at a perfectly innocent person who was on their side? This is why I'm afraid to say anything right now. Even my support is being misconstrued.

Not that he was a gay man, that he was being sexist towards me. But thought any potential sexism could be excused because gay men can't be sexist. Which is a claim I've heard before.

So, laughing at a woman's experience is funny to you? How progressive of you.

Oh, no, say what you want to say. Let's see how accepting you are *sarcasm*

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, STOP ACTING LIKE YOU KNOW ME AND BRINGING UP STUFF TO MAKE ME LOOK BAD! This is out and out bullying at this point and not one person is defending me. I don't think my own friends here know what's going on or are too afraid to say anything.

I never said all gay men do that. I was referencing the ones who do. I disapprove of all sexual predators of any orientation or gender. No one should use manipulation to get sex. It's horrifying that this is a radical perspective in 2020. We don't know if the stuff about James is really untrue. He just was really good at talking his way out of trouble. I was tired on the matter and just walked away as I was never into the beauty community anyway and only piped up in the first place because it brought up an issue that is sadly normalised among some members of the gay community.

This is beyond awful now. Can't you lot see you're making me upset? Leave me alone and stop demonising me NOW.

I don’t remember it because it was an arbitrary conversation about a pop star that I’m not even necessarily a huge fan of. I’m a bully now? Literally the only person I’ve had repeat run ins on this site with is you and I’ve been here for nearly ten years. Amazing that you will accuse me of slandering your name when I simply criticise your points but you’re here baselessly trying to create a narrative that I’m a bully. Hilarious and tragic all at once.

You literally refuse to believe that you could be wrong in any case scenario to the point that you resorted to my sexuality without considering the possibility that you were acting in anyway unfavourable. A trait that you still have and you are demonstrating right now.

“I only make these "surface level" statements because they're all I have.” Precisely. I’m glad you admit it. You are well known for your problematic views on race here to the point that you had to make a pathetic thread trying to dissuade everybody that you’re a racist :rip: If you have to go to that length to convince people and still don’t see that there might be a problem then I don’t know what to tell you. I absolutely don’t believe you think you’re a racist, and I think you have good intentions in that particular arena. But do you miss the mark constantly on this website in those discussions? Yes.

“by the way, @Harry I reviewed your Lana album some years ago that you made for that songwriting contest, it was great! You may be a bad person but you write good songs!).”

You are absolutely despicable. Your entire defence strategy here when people criticise your thoughts in debate is “but you don’t know me outside of a computer screen!!” Yet you feel qualified to outwardly brand me a BAD PERSON with your whole chest like that? You see your hypocrisy? I’ve made comments on your principles and morals but I’ve never made such a sweeping judgement. Disgusting. Good job my respect for you is essentially at zero otherwise I might actually care what you think about me lol.
