Scientists working on coronavirus treatments may be close to a breakthrough on an antibody treatment that could save the lives of people who become infected, it has been reported.

An injection of cloned antibodies that counteract Covid-19 could prove significant for those in the early stages of infection, according to the British-Swedish pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca.

AstraZeneca’s chief executive Pascal Soriot told the newspaper that the treatment being developed is “a combination of two antibodies” in an injected dose “because by having both you reduce the chance of resistance developing to one antibody”.

This is not a cure tho it's a possible treatment to make recovery faster and easier for those most at risk

It's not a cure but a treatment and this wont happen straight away, it needs some time. The more stuff they find out about the virus and possible treatments, the better

Unless it's antibiotics to fight an infection diseases generally don't have "cures" and people like to get hyped about new treatments under development thinking of them as cures when they are not

We like to think of our medical science as advanced but if u think about it there's very little we can actually "cure". We have medicines and treatments to manage an illness and the severely of its symptoms but we don't cure almost anything

If you have high blood pressure you take medication that gets it down but it's a treatment not a cure because you still have the health problem and the moment you stop taking it your blood pressure rises again

Same with diabetes you don't cure it. Same with cholesterol problems you also only manage it with diet or meds

Cancer if you catch it really early before it's spread far, and its not one of the most agressive forms of cancer sometimes if your lucky you can get cured. But more often than not you just keep treating it and putting it into remission to keep extending your life. But never actually cure it, and unfortunately at some point in time the cancer no longer responds to the treatment and it ends up getting you

Our medicine is better at prevention (like vaccines) than actually curing a problem once you get it. If you think about it humans don't actually have cures yet for almost anything. A few things are curable but the vast majority are not. We simply treat it and manage it. Our medicine is not as advanced as many like to hail it were still so limited in what we can do right now

I know time feels slow under lockdown and restrictions but it's barely been 3 months since things got serious outise of China and scientists started putting a lot of research into this

U can't can't be calling them out for being slow and always saying they are close to something when it's been 3 months. Science takes time :rip:

I think ppl forget just how recent this outbreak has been cuz with all the lockdowns and restrictions we get antsy and it feels like it's been forever but we're only in early June and in January things were still normal in most Countries and in February we were just starting to get really worried

Things got serious in March. That's how recent all this has been :emma:
