I would expect bankrupcies and damage to be even higher Even the biggest airlines that had better profit margins are struggling right now Take Air Canada for example. It was always a top performer in an otherwise competitive industry with tight profit margins and even they are struggling AF right now Air Transat which is the company ive used the most times is also in serious trouble right now Look at the largest Latin Airline (I forget the name now). They are facing likely bankruptcy and they were the biggest company in South America This makes 9/11 look like nothing Oh I don't debate whether the current companies will struggle, a lot of them really dropped the ball being prepared for an emergency situation. I'm just talking from a purely consumer stand point of the demand and places serviced by airlines. I will not be surprised if we see a few airlines go out of business or mergers and other tactics to stay afloat for the time being. But even if the ones we commonly know now are gone, once demand is high enough I am somewhat expecting to see new airlines appear. Once people are ready to travel again both out of necessity and luxury there will be a market to meet that demand.

New startups take time to appear and many years to grow they don't just pop out of nowhere especially on something as expensive to start as airlines I can see consumer demand recovering much faster than capacity and prices rising as a result at least for a while
