TOSK 640
Swedish Faith in Covid Strategy Plunges After Errors Revealed Swedes’ confidence in their country’s handling of the Covid-19 crisis has plunged to less than half the population, as the scientist behind the controversial strategy admits he made mistakes. A poll published on Thursday shows an 18 percentage point slump in Swedish support for the government’s response to the virus, including its decision to leave much of society open during the spread of the pandemic. According to the Novus poll published by Sweden’s state broadcaster SVT, only 45% of Swedes now have “fairly high or very high” faith in the strategy, compared with 63% in April. But at 44 deaths per 100,000, Sweden’s mortality rate is among the highest globally and far exceeds rates in neighboring Denmark and Norway, which imposed much tougher lockdowns early on. Like elsewhere, the virus hit Sweden’s oldest citizens hardest. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-06-03/sweden-won-t-abandon-covid-strategy-despite-admitting-to-errors

One of the most densely populated areas in the world and we did pretty bad. Specially in areas like Madrid, Flanders, Ile-de-France and Grand-Est. If no measures had been taken, hospitals would’ve collapsed in all of those places (in France they almost did in some zones). Or see Mexico/ Brazil. We have to understand that not every country is the same! some things may work in one, others wont work in another

Foreign media seems to think we live in some sort of dystopian society where everything has been open 24/7 and people die on the streets... At least our economy won’t be plummeting in a year I personally see no point in lockdowns if there is no significant risk of overwhelming the healthcare system. Sweden's healthcare system seems to be handling it fine, it's not working over capacity or anything, so there really is no point in shutting the economy down. It really comes down to each country's healthcare situation. Those with more capacity will need shorter/no lockdowns.

Exactly U.S. hospitalizations on the rise, former FDA chief says Coronavirus hospitalizations are on the rise around the country, Dr. Scott Gottlieb told CNBC Thursday, as states push forward with plans to reopen the economy and mass protests engulf the country. That could become a problem in the fall, when hospitals around the country begin to fill with flu patients. As the two outbreaks coincide, health systems risk becoming strained. https://www.cnbc.com/2020/06/04/coronavirus-live-updates.html

The rest of Scandinavia maybe benefited from this and that's why the countries from the region who lockdowned did so good compared with other countries. Also, that article is clearly bad propaganda. People who agree with the measures arent only the ones with "very high" faith in the strategy.

I was thinking about this earlier how in lockdown family members would be more likely to give it to eachother of they are stuck at home all day But once it goes thru the family, social distancing would mean less transmission between different households... So innitially a lockdown might make more cases in each household that might offset any transmition outside but in the longer term a lockdown should still reduce a spike

I was pointing out that the benefits are probably small considering they didnt lockdowned. But I guess every detail counts.

Me and my closest friends all became sick the same week after one of us had been on vacation, so we figured it was COVID-19. Me and 2 more people out of the 6 got tested positive through our jobs, so yeah we all had it. I had a fever for 5 days, felt like I had glue in my lungs for about 1,5 weeks (i couldn't walk to my kitchen without getting winded lmao) and i lost all sense of taste and smell for 2 weeks. No coughing or anything. But honestly, I take very good care of myself and we have very little sickness in my family so I truly believe it strikes differently based on genetics and general immune system. eeeeh no thanks, I'm staying at home, it's sounds so awful. sorry that you had to live through this So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy

This thread is basically about that. 2. Do u understand that "very high" approval of the measures doesnt include all the people from Sweden who agree with the relaxed measures? Who made that map?
