They could still walk free, and I've seen outlets spin this as 'George had underlying health conditions' so... we'll see... Either way, I think the protests are far past the point of charging one killer cop - I think a lot of people got very disillusioned about how deep the corruption goes when it comes to law enforcement in the US, and how big a part racism plays in all this - like, so many people have pointed this out but look how different the response from police is to these protests compared to ones from right wing white guys... who bring f***ing assault rifles It's a joke! Second degree murder is generally defined as intentional murder that lacks premeditation, is intended to only cause bodily harm, and demonstrates an extreme indifference to human life. Unfortunately, it is extremely hard to prove premeditation, so charging him with first degree would mean he would more likely walk free.
